In the latest Game Informer content article they stated that "players choose which new subclass branch for their class they want to chase first." So you guys can stop complaining that Bungie is choosing your first new subclass path, and honestly I feel that will be interesting to see in the crucible. Sounds great unless you choose incorrectly. At this point you are literally stuck with your choice until you reach the dreaming city. If I read correctly then that's not happening for a few weeks! This amounts to time gating your supers as many have pointed out. Just because you get to choose your initial super doesn't change that. Choose solar then void and arc are time gated for you. Choose arc then void and solar are time gated for you etc. etc. While it's fine to try to slow the gameplay down it's also misguided. Players will choose the super that gives the most bang for their buck first. It's the normal thing to do i.e. Say you have a table in front of you and it has a hand gun, a machine gun, a grenade launcher and a 50 cal. I then say choose two and the other two are going to be removed for the next two weeks. Most people will choose the grenade launcher and the 50 cal because you get medium range devastation and long range sniping at anything from a grunt to a tank! Now you round the corner and you're presented with a corridor system and a bunch of thralls. The 50 cal is going to get you killed because the reload and recoil is not going to let you kill a swarm of thralls. Similarly the grenade launcher is going to kill you too in a confined space. Then the door to the weapons choices closes with a heavy clang behind you. You spend the next two weeks punching thralls near the door until it opens and you can grab the machine gun! What I'm getting at is that, say you choose void for the loc and then find that the raid needs support solar. You're literally screwed or at least put in a world of un-necessary hurt. The issue is that YOU the player will have no idea you should have chosen class A, B or C first based on the order in which you will be facing challenges to get to the dreaming city. Choosing your first super is literally a monty hall game! It shouldn't be praised. Bungie need to start thinking about this stuff! Either give players a way to progress all of the supers PRE dreaming city or set the order in which you get them to suit the gameplay as designed! If you think I'm being silly then just look at ANY escalation post and I guarantee it will say something along the lines of need 370+ void locs and tether hunters, hammer titans. This is because those are the classes that will guarantee you a completion. Now imagine the LFG posts for Forsaken content. Now finally imagine if you chose the wrong class for your main and you're not on that LFG wish list. Your journey to the dreaming city is going to be a long and lonely one until you manage to unlock the "correct" super for your warlock, hunter or titan.
