Matchmaking nightfall? Yes.
Matchmaking for raids? No way.
Unless Bungie changed their raids fundamentally this won't work.

Why not?

Ok, you get into a raid party. Who has mics, who doesn't? What strategy do you use and how do you communicate it? If people disconnect or leave, how long before their spot gets filled? What is a long enough amount of time for an AFK or service interruption to rejoin while not also making everyone else wait for too long? What happens if you disconnect or don't finish? Do you have to start fresh, or do you get paired with other people in your same situation? What options do people have, without making up new game components, to get rid of someone trolling or sabotaging the instance? Conversely, what's to stop people from abusing report functions to get others kicked at key points if you make the existing reporting auto kick people after x many reports? Without a fireteam lead since it's a matchmade group, no one can reset an instance by going to orbit and flying back in if you wipe too many times and make a particular encounter buggy from having reset it so many times. What if the group takes too long to get as far as you or others want? I can keep going, and going, and going.

I've had the same experiences with LFG.

Edited by a wite guy: 7/3/2018 10:08:58 PMThere are ways to implement matchmaking that would solve all those issues. You could have a vote to kick, you could automatically designate a fireteam leader. You could also avoid it altogether by getting a team yourself. Aren’t options awesome?

Because it would be a cluster-blam!-. Chances are no one is going to know what to do, or they are bad at the game leading to a very frustrating situation. The other scenario you get one or two experienced players who maybe will try to help the noob, but patience only lasts so long since there are so many guides on each raid that you should know what to do without doing it. The most unlikely scenario is you get a full experience team which I can almost guarantee will never happen.

Sure there are chances if those things happening but since it has never been attempted, there is no way to know for sure. You would still be able to create your own team if you didn’t want to use matchmaking. What is wrong with options?
-
That's true, but I can almost promise you the community will just complain about it once they get it and ask for it to be removed. LFG is just easier and you basically know what you are walking into

I don’t see a problem with matchmaking but I would also be okay with in game lfg.

It's not that I have a problem with matchmaking. LFG has its problem respectively as well for example d1 y1 with ghally and ice breaker. Matchmaking will rely on people staying till the end and if someone leaves, people who want fresh raids might get looped in at the end of the raid. Spire of stars as well would be a huge issue as that raid REQUIRES you to have a mic and know exactly what you are doing
