D:LU Ch19 Pt10

Legend Untold Chapter 19 Blank Slate Chapter 33 Freehold Part 10 “Uh, guys,” Welkine warned, “Those people we shot at are coming over here.” Moments later the hum of Sparrows grew audible, and we waited a moment for the pair to come to a halt in front of us. They were both Titans; one was a pretty decent size for a Titan and wore battered armor while the other was almost as massive as Drew and Keis. “What the heck was that?!” the smaller one shouted, marking him as the one that had been shot. “Sorry, they thought you were Psions,” Yvan blamed us. “Do I look like a pipsqueak Psion?!” the Titan raged. He sounded familiar… “I mean, from far away…” Drew shrugged. “You’re still alive to complain about it,” Fehri helped. “I WAS dead!” the angry man pointed out. “Not cool,” the huge Titan shook his head. “We’re sorry guys, we really didn’t know,” I tried diffusing the situation. The smaller one gave me a long, hard look through his visor. “Squirt?” he asked cautiously. “Hey that’s not nice!” Nat put her fists up. “No no, it’s okay Nat,” I waved my hand at her, having finally recognized the Titan, “Bruno?” “Traveler above, it is you,” Bruno stuck out his hand to me, “How’s it going? Sorry I can’t remember your name.” “That’s fine, it’s William,” I replied, shaking his hand. I hadn’t expected to see him again, much less have him act friendly towards me. “I see your sense of fashion has gotten worse,” Bruno chuckled. “So I’ve been told…repeatedly,” I looked back at the others, “You here to patrol?” “Oh yeah, I’ve bee-“ Bruno was cut off by the bigger Titan nudging his arm, “Right. William this is Ahnk, he was there last time we saw each other.” “Charmed,” Ahnk nodded to everyone. All of my friends introduced themselves in turn aside from Yvan and Crag, who were introduced by Null and Veronica. “A friend William hasn’t told us about?” Sierra scoffed, after the formalities were over, “That’s hard to believe.” “Well…” I rubbed the back of my head sheepishly. “We weren’t friends,” Bruno admitted, “Sorry about that, by the way.” “Don’t worry about it,” I dismissed, “I was kinda rough with you, too. How did you both end up together? And why are you…?” “Nice?” Bruno laughed, “Well, after we realized you cheated with your Light somehow in the weight room, we-“ “Weight room?” Ilya interrupted. “Yeah guys it’s so cool!” Drew exclaimed. “Some Titan found an empty room in the Tower awhile back and got some friends to help him fill it with exercise equipment,” I explained, “I found it by word of mouth.” “But William. In a weight room. Rather than a library,” Sierra was confused. “It’s a social hotspot,” I told them sheepishly, “I was a new Titan and wanted to meet people.” “Wait…are we your only friends William?” John questioned. I kicked at the sand in embarrassment, “…I don’t have many others.” “Bookworm’s curse,” Sierra tutted. “Aww poor Will,” Nat grabbed me and pulled me into a hug, which Ilya and Trixie quickly joined. “It’s okay, most Guardians don’t have many friends,” Ilya tried soothing. Honestly I just felt even more embarrassed from all of it. “Um…” Bruno shifted on his feet awkwardly, “Are you guys always like this?” “Pretty much, yeah,” I managed to push my way out of the comfort ring, “Please continue.” “Yeah…anyway,” Bruno cleared his throat, “After that I kinda just pushed you to the back of my mind. I mean, you know, bipolar cheater of random inspirational words I didn’t care about.” Ahnk nudged Bruno roughly. “Right, right,” Bruno muttered, “Sorry, didn’t mean to be rude. But later on Shaxx ended up pinning me after a Crucible match where I…well, Shaxx taught me a lesson and I thought back on you and a couple other things, and ever since I’ve been working on the whole team player thing. I ran into Ahnk a short while back and we recognized each other.” “And now we’re all here,” Yvan grunted, “Hurray that’s over, let’s all move on with our lives and forget about each other.” Nat punched Yvan’s shoulder, making him shuffle to the side a bit. “If you’d like to tag along with us, you’re welcome to,” I offered, hoping Yvan hadn’t offended them. “Ahnk?” Bruno checked. “Don’t like crowds,” the big man shrugged. “Yeah I’m not a people person either. But you already knew that,” Bruno sighed, then pointed off the way they had come from, “Tell you what though, we just passed by some Cabal over that way. Too many for us two to take, but definitely something you guys can handle.” “Yes!” Drew cheered, already running off through the sand without waiting. “Goodbye,” Ahnk nodded politely to our group, and began walking off with Bruno right behind. “You need to hook me up with that hot Warlock,” Bruno whispered as he passed me, then gave me a pat on the shoulder. I groaned internally. “BYE BYE!” Trixie shouted in their faces as they passed, while everyone else just waved or nodded farewell. “Don’t get killed out there, squirt!” Bruno teased. “Same to you, bruiser!” I responded. “Well, that was awkward for all of us,” Fehri whispered as the two Titans disappeared over the next dune. “Yeah,” I agreed, “Let’s catch Drew before he gets himself killed.” Before long we were all lined up along the roof of a building buried in the desert, looking down at a rather impressive force of Cabal that seemed to be setting up a supply cache. “We can take ‘em,” Drew put his foot up on the ledge in preparation to jump down. “Hey hey wait!” Quintel protested, “We need a plan!” Without paying Quintel any mind, Drew hopped over and landed on concrete several meters below, followed by Trixie, Nat, Sierra, and Fehri. “It’s okay, Quintel,” I patted him on the shoulder, “They wouldn’t follow the plan anyway.” “That’s not reassuring,” the Titan replied, then joined the others below. “Crag? Yvan? Are you going to keep an eye on things from here?” I checked with our two snipers. “I’m not going to let all those daffodils have all the fun,” Yvan snorted, then jumped with Crag close behind. “All out charge, then,” I sighed as I watched everyone bolt off towards the Cabal. “Come on,” Veronica sidled up next to me, “Someone needs to make sure they don’t get themselves killed.” Pt9: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/245635260/0/0 Pt11: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/245635673/0/0 ToC: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/212710816/0/0
