Crucible Labs: Showdown Feedback

Yesterday, Crucible Labs became available with its first featured game mode. We’ve gotten quite a few questions on how the mode works, where to leave feedback, and what to expect moving forward. [b]PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll[/b] has some answers: [b]Derek:[/b] The gametype we're testing in this Lab is Showdown, a 4v4 team game that might feel a bit familiar to those of you who played Doubles. Double Doubles? Anyway, the rules are simple: Take out the enemy as many times as you can within the time limit to win each round, best 3 out of 5. If the game is tied 2-2 after 4 rounds, you will play a FINAL SHOWDOWN that's pure elimination, crowning the victor. Crucible Labs is a work-in-progress, and we're learning as we go! We expect this Lab to be available until the next Weekly Reset on June 5, but if something goes truly sideways, we might have to end the test earlier. We’re deliberately starting Labs off simple, not just to test Showdown, but the Labs process itself. You will notice that there are no ranks or rewards given for participating in the Labs playlist this time, but that’s something we will likely change in the future. This time around, we're going to ask you to sound off in the feedback forums on Bungie.net, though we'll be watching Reddit, Twitter, and all your usual haunts. In the future, we'd like to get more scientific about the whole thing, but for now, your gut reactions will be great. The mode itself seems rather similar to clash. The only unique thing was the Final Showdown. The rest is just shoot people until you win. • Was anything confusing? Why should a new mode be so similar to modes we already have? • Did anything seem missing? An objective aside from kill the enemy. We have that. It's called Clash. • Was there a map it played better/worse on? Not really. • Were there spawning issues? Spawned into an enemy Golden Gun a few times. That was not so great. • Were the rounds too short/too long? A bit long for a mode that feels like it should be similar to Trials. • Was there a weapon or other sandbox combination that affected the game in a negative way? Vigilance Wing as always. Graviton Lance as always. Though, they are fun guns to use so... Yeah.

  • Showdown is actually one of my favorite game modes for crucible and I am looking forward to see it in the competitive playlist! and also super excited for the reef to come back hopefully the broadcast will give us more info to let us get hyped for more content to grind. Looking forward for the comet!

  • I like the game mode, I think it’s fun. I’ve run into a few glitches so wanted to just comment on them. Sometimes if I join a match in progress and I die, instead of respawning it tells me “waiting for teammate to revive you” but there’s no option to be revived so I have to wait out the rest of the round. Another glitch I’ve run into is if someone uses a tether and I’m in my super; it automatically cancels my super before the animation of their tether is finished. So for instance I activated my slam, enemy activated his tether. While he was in the air and the tether hadn’t even hit the ground yet, my slam just stopped but I wasn’t tethered for another 2-3 seconds. Other than that (so far) I haven’t experienced anything else glitchy. The spawns are fine and I like how heavy spawns in different places to what it usually does.

  • look this up if you do not believe this. Bungie has had Destiny as a whole on the back burner and out sourced the last dlc. And it shows. D2 has been failuer and a insult to the player base. Know bungie is making a new game that has nothing to with the half assed destiny game. Now we can see why Destiny has no content and a huge mess of a story. With the connection to the china company way more Grredboxes and microtransaction are going to be the center piece as this is exactly what bungie has done with D2. Do Not Buy any DLC or anything ever again as bungie has shown Destiny is at best an after thought to them. Destiny has been guessed by players, Youtubers, and Streamers to be dead and Dying. Well now we know that bungie has no intention to make Destiny any better ever. Its over and done. A failuer from start to end. Check Google/Kotaku.com for yourself.

    • Game mode felt boring, as in nothing new. Like clash just with four rounds instead of one. At the end of the day the team with the most kills is still the only objective. Something like bringing back rift from D1 would have been much more welcomed since just killing will not grant you the win, or something fresh or inspired from another FPS. Another idea? -a clash/control playlist where exotics are disabled/forbidden. Tired of only fighting graviton lances

      Honestly not a fan of 4v4. Can't get into it, this teamshot meta just ruins it. I need d1 like crucible please. Crucible is like one of the only things to do when you hit max light. And the current state of d2 crucible is horrible. I'm not a dev but if you guys read this these are my thoughts. 1. Ditch 4v4 and return to 6v6 and 3v3, if you want to keep 4v4 put it in a different playlist. 2. Bring back snipers to the second slot, this is one of the main things that I can't stress enough. 3. Drastically raise the time to kill, in d1 you could make insane plays in trials of osiris it was amazing and thrilling to win a 1v3 whether you sticky naded one then sniped the other and then primaried the last. 4. Bring back reputation ranks for crucible, cryptarch, gunsmith etc. 5. Random rolls 6. Make nades good again 7. Faster movement, why not bring back titan skating?!?! 8. Let us customize our own super perks. That was one of my favorite things in d1. 9. I know I already said this, but please do d2 crucible exactly like d1. If I knew how d2s crucible was going to be I would've preferred non stop 20 dollar expansions to d1. 10. Show the loot drops after the match like in d1 with added legendary weapons like matador, eysaluna etc. (With random rolls) 11. Stop trying to make d2 insanely competitive. It will never be an esports game. I want the chill d1 crucible with the tryharding in trials on the weekend. 12. Honestly say what you want about sticky nades but you shouldn't of nerfed as bad as you did, they should stay a 1 shot kill but lower the stickiness 13. Wtf is the point of no radar like wtf. Some people like it but most people don't. 14. Again bring back secondary snipers, why take them out? They took skill to use. Honestly I'd take shotguns back too even tho I despised them in d1 15. Wtf is this 3 hit melee. Whose idea was that? 16. Start listening to your community, and do what we want. We are playing your game so why are you guys making all of the decisions and screwing over your playerbase? 17. If an expansion flops and you guys say don't worry we will fix the game in the next expansion. NO you fix it right then and there. Yes it'll take time but we shouldn't have to wait 4 months and pay 20 dollars for the changes that should've been made a lot earlier. 18. Stop telling us to trust you, when you've betrayed our trust time and time again. I've been playing your game for 4 years and will continue to do so but if this next expansion flops and you guys don't deliver what's promised. I won't be able to continue playing your game and it will break my heart to stop. 19. Yes I'm not a dev and yes I have no idea how to make a game. But what I do know is how to play a game and know what's missing and what needs to be changed. I've played lots of games and I know exactly what d2 needs. You only have to listen. So please listen. Listen to your fans that have been with you from the start and have believed in you, but yet everytime you disappoint them, they come back. People want to see d2 succeed.. the question is, bungie do you want to succeed?

          • Tldr; need to get more players into the queue to improve matchmaking quality. I suggest you make the icon bigger and more central and turn on Valor ranking in this lab playlist. Also, how about something more different from Clash/Survival (CTF, KotH...). Was anything confusing? No, pretty straightforward on this game type, no issues there but... It took me a moment to notice the labs option in the Crucible menu, though. Any reason you didn't put it somewhere a bit more front and centre (and bigger) to actually draw our attention to it more? Also, any reason why playing in this queue can't count towards my Valor rank? I'd be much more inclined to spend time in labs if it was progressing my rank while I did it. Not sure if others are motivated in the same way as me but it took a long time to matchmake and when I did the 4th person on my team was afk in one game and not there at all in the other. Unsurprisingly, I lost the 2 games I played due to the 3v4 plus some oh-so-skilful-let's-hold-hands-and-teamshot play style of the other team (seriously, it's already 3v4, people, have you no honour??). Anyway, long story short, you might get more people in the queue if the icon is a bit more accessible/bolder and if it counted towards Valor. I'm all for testing new modes in your lab, Bungie, but I need other players in order to do that. • Did anything seem missing? Well, mostly it was missing other players :( Otherwise no but it wasn't radically different to game modes we've seen in the past? Were we getting a buff a la Crimson Days Doubles? If so, I didn't notice it. • Was there a map it played better/worse on? Only played 2 games, got Javelin for both so don't know (but it would be nice to have some blocking of that repetition). • Were there spawning issues? Not that I noticed. • Were the rounds too short/too long? They seemed ok length. • Was there a weapon or other sandbox combination that affected the game in a negative way? Not specifically but, hey, if we could have a game mode or queue where the Colony is [u][b]BANNED[/b][/u]... Wow, that'd be real nice ;)

              Showdown is an awesome mode and I think it should replace countdown in Trials. Now only if you devs can get rid of the ridiculous Ranking system and bring back the options of what modes we play in. Also the new Faction Rallie is GARBAGE!! We did not have that in D1 why now? And before anyone negatively comments on the faction rallie opinion I gave kick rocks. It was meaningful in D1 no ranking system and random drops. What is the point of 3 different characters if you devs tell us we can only do 1 per account? Stop limiting us players that grind all 3 characters.

            • What did you think about this mode? I liked Showdown, the model seemed like a competitive mode but it felt more like a quick play mode due to I felt really relaxed when playing Showdown until I dealt with a sword troll player Was anything confusing? Nope Did anything seem missing? No but I would love to see an emblem rewarded for players whom get multiple wins. Also I feel like there needs to be some more of a penalty for players who leaves matches. My team won the match but one player left the match and in some aspects of the match the player who left kind of made the match more competitive to win because he left he had a good reason the Sword troller Was there a map it played better/worse on? All the maps seem pretty good for Showdown but I really enjoyed Solitude Were there spawning issues? Nope Were the rounds too short/too long? They seem fine but I felt like it was kind of short but I think it was because of the team I was match made into were kind of more competitive than most players I have been match made with in the past Was there a weapon or other sandbox combination that affected the game in a negative way? Personally swords there was a player on the opponent's team, a hunter no name mentioned which would sword spam without any heavy the team I was on we literally had to team shot him to stop him multiple times throughout the match the funny thing is he would do this strategy but he would kill all four of us with a sword with no ammo his sword was transparent meaning his sword had no ammo. Even in regular quick play I have noticed other players do this similar strategy as a result players quit the matches. You know sometimes players just wants to enjoy PVP and relax they don't want to deal with players like this especially when you're trying out a in development game mode you expect players just to play normal not to do these weird crazy things in a developmental setting. Other than that I loved Showdown I really hope Showdown becomes a permanent game mode in the future I would love to play even more Crucible labs for other modes in development. I would even love to see a PVE version of Labs of future content because it's very engaging with the developers and with the players it's a big reason why I love Destiny so much is because it is a Community Driven game in some cases

            • I personally liked it, but maybe make the mode just a gun match mode, like an old western showdown, not a super and guns mode. the mode was a bit long, maybe make it 2.5 or just 2 minutes. The directions were clear enough. Maybe make some sort of extra Shaxx speech if you decide to keep the round 3 minutes.

            • My honest feedback is spawns are always an issue but i can understand the maps are small. The mode wont balance anything its just clash. The radar, weapons and class abilities need to be buffed. Pretty much sandbox. I didnt see any mentions in the twab? Can you please help?

            • It's an okay mode, not GREAT but definitely not bad. I played it twice on bannerfall and I liked the fact that we can see how much kills we actually get (instead of the Kills + Assists in normal crucible). Nothing confusing it was pretty straight forward. It's clash with rounds. The things that seem to be missing is more players and letting it affect our progression for glory/valor. I feel like this mode would be better if it had more players for 6v6 and/or mayhem added to it. Additionally, it feels like this mode would be perfect for a glory progression (and for valor progression during the testing phase). Weapons that seem to affect the game negatively none that I saw while playing. And round times were a good length.

            • Please bring back Queen Mara Sov. I would love to see her as a vendor in game where she gives out bounties, or if there is a certain rank we need to be to unlock Queen themed gear / weapons /ships /shaders / sparrows, emblems from her that would be great. For fans of the the Queen this would be a great addition to Destiny 2. I'd love if you brought her purple and black , gold and purple shaders back as well as an emote with the queens symbol that we can choose to purchase. I really would appreciate if you take this into consideration. For fans of the Queen this will make the game much more fun. Feel free to bring back here bounties🙂

              • I enjoyed Showdown, and I’m excited for more game modes in the future (elimination?). The only problem I noticed was when I loaded into an in-progress match. Sometimes, when a match was already under way, I would get killed and not respawn. This would stop after the round was over, but it was a bit annoying to have to sit on the sidelines while my teammates got slaughtered because they were outnumbered. Anyways, I’m excited for the potential Labs brings! I hope you guys at Bungie get to see this, because the spawning thing is a bit of an issue.

                • If you are planning on making this a competitive mode, you HAVE to have radar on for this mode. If you don’t, then the teams will get one kill, then hide for the rest of the match

Let us play what YOU guys are playing at Bungie HQ. I am willing to bet all my exotics from D1 that there are incredible things you guys are working on for PvP and PvE but that you won't let us see. On June 5th, this reveal stream you have coming up, this is your best chance to open the curtains and show us that you are better than just "We are listening" or "Two tokens and a blue".
