EP Catch-22

In D1, I don't know of a single endgame activity that didn't include progression or some unique and powerful reward - and most times both. Where's the equivalent of the Vex Mythoclast in D2? Remember grinding out sometimes dozens of HM VoG just for an RNG chance at getting it? We ground out months of Nightfall just for the RNG chance at (hoping for) the Icebreaker or Gjallarhorn... or). Or how about the Spindle mission? How about the Doctrine of Passing in Trials? So many great guns. I don't know why Bungie is doing what it's doing. Makes no sense to me. It's reached a point where our great (to me anyway) raid team doesn't even play Destiny anymore. All of the "hoot-n-holler" moments we had in D1 have been replaced by silence. Bungie has all of the data in the world to tell them what activities the millions and millions of players liked in D1Y1. They are squandering their inheritance.

  • You do it to get the gear and because it’s fun. Remember when people used to play games because they were fun? I still play regular strikes, because they’re fun (except exodus crash, that still drives me crazy).

        A three man team at 385 still couldn't beat an ep protocol. there are way to many adds and not enough time to kill all the adds. that means they would have to solo crystal plates in all not gonna happen.

        • Reminds me of doing Nexus strike nightfall solo with voidburn in D1Y1. Ammo Synths or Icebreaker and a the cheese spot were necessary. Nice game design Bungie! And they haven't learned anything since then. Just permutations of crap decisions.

            The Escalation Protocol was simply for the armor set, not to contribute to max light. Hence why the drops are trash. Anything that Bungie calls "endgame", however, should drop items like the raids do.

              EP was never meant to be a step in progression. It's meant to be a max light level activity to do purely for the challenge of it and get rewarded with the armor and weapons. The weapons are pretty awesome. The shotgun is pretty OP from what I've seen. I don't really have a problem with it, but the public activity aspect of it just really left things open for people to try and get the max amount of players they can for it. Look at how many people used War coil glitch and the shadow realm cheese in the Raid when it was still possible. Almost no one was looking to do legitimate runs at the time... It's still too early for Bungie to make a decision about altering EP as most players are still a decent way from max light level.

              • I’m 383, my girlfriend is 380 and there was a 384 plus two or three others around 360-375 and we still couldn’t make it pass level 5, no way was this designed for just 3 people

                    • The problem is, that IF its been designed to be a 3player fireteam endgame challenge You can't actually set this challenge to do this - because other players on location will join in The EP needs to be in a dedicated area (and have the option to choose player numbers) Minimum 2 ....Max 9 But with rewards shelled out according to player number/level So for example 2 players put 7 levels/waves away (a nigh on impossible challenge) & guarantee Powerful Gear/EP ranked loot/EP specific shaders/ Emblem/Aura 3 players might get the PG/EP shaders Etc etc

                      It has already been done. I think that it’s more designed for a max light fireteam of 3 plus any randoms that happen to be in the area. That being said, I don’t think a 3 man team would be able to do last weeks encounter even with a couple randoms to help them out Edit: I do think the activity would be perfect if we could have 6 man patrol

                    • Well its not just that. Gigz got the worlds first completion on EP with a 3 man team... after 8 hours and having to cheat the system with forcing a public event on wave 6, then finding a cheese spot for the boss.

                      • and if you dont raid, you dont progress unless randomly hawthorne and/or cayde give at least one of your characters something you can infuse rather than dismantle. so more often than not you do the clan and flahspoints and then you dont want to log back in because they nerfed exotic engram levels. before warmind i played most days i could for a few hours because i had a hope to progress something, even if it was only by one. now one of my 3, hopefully my main the hunter, gets soemthing high enough that other engrams drop at one or two higher, until i can infuse all my hunter gear and stick some in vault for the others. this week i got my hunter to 251 and stalled. my others ate 348 and stalled. im at 'not wanting to log in because stalled, and grinding for no reason, with no hope.' so im here on the forums more than i was playing. is this by design bungie? i get a feeling maybe you were trying to encourage if not force pve players to do the raid. the toxic player wall makes that a no-no, and the option you dont seem to have considered is, pve players play less. and less. and then some dont bother logging in at all and maybe find something in coming months which replaces destiny and they dont come back. if anyone needs me, im in my asp explorer, about 7800 ly away from Sag A* at the galactic centre and then i will sightseeing, and turn round and fly the 24000 ly back to the inhabited bubble of human space.

                        • It's definitely pretty absurd they're still sticking to the 3-man team thing and when it's clearly not balanced for that. Right now it's a fun challenge to do where with 9 people you might not comfortably make the DPS checks, and that's good. It shouldn't be a complete joke if you have 9 people, because that makes the experience super inconsistent. But it's way too hard for the vast majority of the playerbase to actually expect to 3-man it, if Gigz' run is any indication. Unless there's a boss even simpler mechanically than that ogre, it's not even worth thinking about for most people. I don't see why they can't just embrace it as a 9-player mode and make finding people easier, instead of trying to balance it for 3 people when that'll make it too easy for groups. It's easily the most fun I've had outside of a raid when you have 9 people throwing themselves at shit like madmen with supers and heavy flying everywhere, and even if you fail it's not very stressful which is good.

                        • I looked on YouTube to see if anyone had 3-manned it. There were a couple of videos claiming it but there were still randoms lurking around. Its not impossible, well not for teams involving Esoterickk or SC_Slayerage etc, but for the vast majority it does seem unnecessarily tough. Although only just a little.
