Luminous Engrams Dropping Lower Than My Light Level

I have started seeing this after I hit 350-355 where my "powerful engram" is 1-2 levels below my current level. Currently on my Warlock I am 360, but my "powerful engrams" say 358 when I hover over them. I have seen this across all of my characters and it is becoming difficult to level up WITH the weekly milestones. I don't understand why this is happening or perhaps it is intentional? Most of my weapons and armor on all characters are already 358 (363 w/mods)...how am I supposed to level up, when the REWARDS give me items below my light to the point they don't benefit me?

  • Started a new topic: Engram bug even in forsaken. No reaction from bungie at all(4 Replies))

  • I've noticed this issue when the game first launched and found it really frustrating. Not only do luminous engrams have the potential to drop below my current power level, their level fluctuates over the course of the day. This drove me to periodically login in and check each vendor multiple times a day to try to cash in the engram when it was being offered for the highest light possible - really terrible gameplay mechanic and a big reason why I left the game soon after initial launch. Hopefully things will be better in Forsaken now that mods will no longer have +5 power levels associated with them.

  • I am 364 on my hunter modded. Just picked up my clan XP reward, a 361 luminous engram. It gave me a 361 autorifle and my weapons are 368 on kinetic and 367 on energy. I also got a 361 gauntlet. My gauntlet were already 366 modded. This is no improvement! I get that technically it could have been a slight improvement IF the weapon was a power weapon and the gear piece was legs (my highest power weapon is 365 modded and my legs are 359 modded), but it wasn’t. I feel the powerful engrams shouldn’t be an RNG thing whether it’s an improvement or not.

  • If you are 360 with +5 mods equipped then its working correctly. Your base PL is 355 so a 358 drop is an improvement. Drops always ignore your +5 mods.

  • https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/8liclw/all_powerful_engrams_bugged/ Same thing. Everyone seems to forget that at first the Engrams are higher then your max might and argue it’s based off base light only. Not true. How else does it explain why our Engrams are higher at first and then lower all of a sudden. They also appear to stop scaling like I posted on here and reddit.

  • Same thing happening to me. I’m light 253 and I keep getting 252 luminous engrams.

    • Everything but your warlock's chest piece would benefit from a 358 drop. If you don't have anything you want to infuse the drop into, hold on to it until you get a higher drop in the same slot. Also, check for mods first on the drops. If you get a 360 drop with a legendary mod on it, it's really only 355.

    • they might not have legendary mods installed. with legendary mod they will be +5, or infuse into something with one already.
