• Vanilla story for one reason only. Not the plot, not the characters, it’s simple really
Its the only time My Guardians talked for themselves.
Personally (hate me if you want) I loved D2’s story over all the other DLC’s. Vanilla Destiny: Okay the vex have a black goo orb, how does that relate to anything? Oh a triple boss fight? No real satisfaction? Umm... okay? Dark below: I hear a lot of bad things about Crota yet he seemed... well weak. Sure he was bad in the raid, and was powerful, but again, seemed weak. House of wolves: Skolas was interesting, seeing as the Fallen were my favorite race. But he didn’t get any real backstory. Taken King: The banter between Cayde and Eris was amazing. Oryx was an interesting character, but only after you read the books of sorrow. Then I realized he was kinda weak for a genocidal monster. Rise of iron: SIVA had amazing design, and a good way of making us fight actual Iron Lords, but in terms of actually making an impact, didn’t do much later in the story of Destiny. Now onto D2. I’m not including curse or Warmind. But for Vanilla D2, I felt like I had a purpose. This big bad monster, Ghaul had done something that broke my gaming heart. My vault destroyed, my home burned, my Vanguard family scattered. And when he pushed us off the ledge? Oh you bet my Titan ass I wasn’t gonna take that lightly. And then we got to Journey. Watching our home burn from a distance, our ghost fractured, seeing dead guardians who could’ve been old friends, and the music. That amazing music. That was the icing on the revenge cake. And his whole story with being accepted by the Traveler ironically reminded me of the story of Satan, who wanted to ascend to Godhood. You can bet when I killed Ghaul I felt a lot of satisfaction as opposed to a triple boss fight against Minotaurs.

I loved ttk. Warmind (d2) was underrated in my opinion. I know that it has many problems. But bungee is trying. They didn’t on CoO. They could have done many things like for example not do a raid lair for this expansion but have Xol as a proper boss. But the thing that really sold it for me is when Rasputin said, “I have no equal.” That right there made me shudder the amount of defiance, how Zavala was in fear. I had more fun in Destiny but I’m starting to go back to Destiny 2 If they made a third Destiny I would buy it after a month to see if it’s worth it.
Rasputin dies in infinity war
TTK, nothing can compete with the sword logic/book of sorrows and sadly bungie will probably never provide us with something that deep.

        • Anybody else notice they were afraid of using Gary as the raid boss? And so we got this nonsense where the raid(s) we do have are only nebulously connected to the story of the main game. The leviathan isn’t trying to eat Earth or anyplace else with a significant human presence. Nor does Emperor Calus seem to pose an immediate threat. It made sense to attack the dreadnaught in defense of the Earth. Totally different feeling. Leviathan is ok on its own, but thus far, I don’t see it as being connected to any other part of the lore in a satisfactory way.

          • The Taken King. Bungie did a great job (you won't see that sentence much) of blending the story into all the other activities. Everything felt like it was part of the story: story missions, strikes, Court of Oryx, the raid and even all the hidden stuff and exotic quests etc. And the Dreadnaught was filled with mystery. It all worked so well. Rise of Iron was fairly well done even though the actual story arc kinda came out of nowhere. Even The Dark Below had an expanded story through extra quests and missions. Warmind reuses story missions for strikes and the raid (lair) has nothing to do with it.

          • Halo. The Destiny story is entirely Frankensteined and a shell of its former self.

          • I voted ttk but I think that only stands out because of the amount of new things to do in the game, but I think the story missions were just as short and few as we’ve always had. Just that we didn’t notice as much because we got infusion system but it wasn’t 1 to 1 so everything took longer until we got to the necessary level. Everything also took place on dreadnought and we was surrounded by all the activities. I would say roi would be second and warmind 3rd.

          • If it’s the best campaign story as in isolated only to the in game story mission dialogue, cinematics, and scans: Then my list would be 1. Vanilla D2 2. TTK 3. RoI 4. HoW 5. Vanilla D1 (it was garbage, incoherent but it had some memorable moments) 6. TDB 7. Warmind 8. CoO If the list was best story that includes the associated grimoire/lore entries of that respective release then my list would be: 1. TTK 2. Vanilla D1 3. TDB 4. HoW 5. Vanilla D2 6. RoI 7. Warmind 8. CoO D1 rises up a lot, because the grimoire painted a universe the campaign didn’t touch. And it was a great foundation. D2 falls because while having a coherent campaign that makes the most sense as you play, the D2 lore did very little to explain much more than that. The lore behind TDB and HoW was considerably better than anything in D2 so far, but the in game delivery was pretty weak.

            • 1. Destiny 2. A coherent, engaging story with an interesting, if tragic, villain. 2. The Taken King. From epic space battle to Oryx's fall, this one's really cool. 3. Rise of Iron. Short, simple, straightforward. 4. House of Wolves. A brief story, but an engaging one. 5. Curse of Osiris. Rates this much for Sagira's sassy character, and the only good Guardian-Ghost interplay in the Destiny canon. 6. Warmind. Way too short, and a waste of a promising boss. 7. Destiny. Even though your Guardian talks, the story of the Exo stranger is never resolved. 8. Dark Below. There was a story?

                • I recently played through D1 for the first time. Absolute garbage story, I'm sorry. Taken King is decent but quality wise it doesn't even come close to Destiny 2s story, or Warmind.

                • So many people saying Taken King is the best when that’s probably just when most of them joined. It isn’t as great as people want to remember. It completely threw plenty of things in Year 1 Destiny off-balance. (My opinion) But for story, they haven’t really put a great overall story together. The only ones that really stand out are Taken King, Rise of Iron, and Destiny 2. But even then you never really felt like you were that into the story because there wasn’t much to get into. The Grimoire from Destiny 1 is more interesting than all the campaigns combined.

                • I'm surprised The Taken King is the favorite among the community. Even though Destiny 2 at release had a bunch of problems, the story was the one thing that was actually considered decent. I would put it above The Taken King.
