A Simple Story, Chapter 9: Seth, Banker, and Slough. (1/2)

The Hunter quickly dodged behind a tree as a stream of arc energy whizzed just barely past her. “Slough! Hurry it up over there!” she shouted. Another Hunter quickly shot a couple of rounds from their crimson, dark hand cannon before dodging behind a neighboring tree next to a Titan. “I’m workin’ on it!” he shouted with a slightly Scottish accent. “Banker!” Slough shouted. “Cover me!” The Titan nodded and came out from behind the tree, he fired a few bullets from his auto rifle and heard a Fallen shriek, in cases like this he wished his Exo body could allow for him to grin. “GO, GO, GO!” Banker shouted, now that all attention was on him. Slough nodded, and with a quick roll, he started his flank on the Fallen attackers. A steam of arc energy lightly grazed the side of Banker's helmet and he quickly got back behind the safety of the tree. He glanced over at Seth to see how she was doing, only to see a Fallen sneaking up from her left. “Seth! On your left!” Banker shouted. The Hunter named Seth quickly spun around to see a Fallen Wretch charging at her with it's spear held low and ready to stab her. She simply just pulled up her Sidearm and shot it in the head. “Thanks!” she shouted. "No problem!" Banker responded before peaking out from behind the tree, trying to identify where the Fallen snipers were. His quick scan was interrupted when he heard a high-pitched hum and looked down to see a shock grenade fall into the ground next to him. “GRENADE!” he shouted as he jumped away from it. The Shock Grenade exploded, sending a flash of blinding white light to anyone near it. Luckily though, thanks to Banker’s warning, neither him nor Seth got blinded by it. “Slough!” Banker shouted, “Hurry your ass up!” he barked. Slough silently mocked Banker under his breath as he snuck up behind a Vandal. He drew his knife and with precision aim threw the blade at it. The knife got lodged into the back of the Vandal’s neck and it let out a shout of pain. Hastily, Slough followed up with a quick shot from his hand cannon. The Fallen’s limp body fell onto the ground. "Ya can't rush art." he chuckled and reached down to take his knife out of the Fallen. Out of the corner of Slough’s eye, he saw another nearby Vandal turn and charge up it's arc rifle at him. With nimble, graceful skill, he rolled over to the right, causing for the Vandal to miss its shot, and shot another round right in-between the Vandal’s four eyes. It’s head exploded and it fell onto the ground as well. “SNIPERS CLEAR!” Slough shouted. “Advance!” Banker ordered as he emerged from behind the tree. Seth nodded and followed behind him, Sidearm drawn and ready to shoot. “Slough, we need eyes on the Captain!” Banker called. “No need, I got visual on him!” Seth shouted as she split away from Banker’s forward advance. She could see the Captain’s glowing blue shield to her left. “Banker, with me! Standard arc shield!” she informed. Banker nodded, clipped his Auto Rifle onto his back, and drew his arc Sniper Rifle. “Charge him!” Banker roared before turning his slow advancement into a full on sprint. Seth understood the order and ran after the Captain with astounding speed. With a swift motion, Banker slid on the ground, aimed his rifle, and fired a single arc-induced bullet at the escaping captain, shattering his shield. “I got him!” Seth yelled as she caught up to the Fallen Captain. She aimed her Sidearm and shot the Captain in his left leg, making it fall onto the ground. Before she could shoot him in the back of his head however, the Captain spun around and aimed its shrapnel launcher at her, about to shoot and kill the Hunter. Right as he was about to pull the trigger though, his head exploded and ether spewed out of its now limp body. Slough chuckled and put away his smoking hand cannon. “C’mon Seth! Get ya head in the game!” he joked before jumping down from the rock he had shot the Captain from, joining Banker and Seth. “Ya think he’s got a radio?” Slough asked as he peered over Banker’s bulky shoulders. Banker got onto his knees and closely examined the Captain, he turned it on to its stomach and looked to see if there was anything attached to its back. He let out a long, metallic sigh. “Nothing.” “Damn.” Slough cursed. “Well, that’s Fallen for ya, ay? Wanting to kill ya for yer stuff ‘cus they don’t got anything themselves.” he grinned. “They’re vultures alright.” Seth agreed. “Well, no use in us just standing here.” She turned to face Slough and Banker. “Slough, mind looting the Fallen? We need any supplies and ammo we can get.” she said. Slough tipped an imaginary hat and ran off to go loot the killed Fallen. “Good,” Seth said before turning to Banker, “Banker, go scout ahead. We need to make sure there aren’t any more Fallen nearby. Think you can meet back up with us here in two hours? We might end up setting camp here for the night.” Banker nodded, “Got it.” He said before turning and walking off. He stopped a few feet away and turned his head for a second. “Oh and Seth,” Seth took her attention away from her sidearm and looked up at Banker, “Yeah?” “Try your best to tolerate Slough, yeah? I don’t want to come back to see our team one Hunter less.” he joked. Seth shrugged, “I make no promises. See ya Banker-3.” Banker scoffed, “Be right back, Sethrina-7” he said before turning back around and jogging away, deeper into the mysterious forest on his own.
