A Simple Story, Chapter 8: Movie Night. (3/3)

Psst, heya! Real fast, I would like your feedback, readers! There is a question down in the comments I've posted. Reply with what you think should happen! As we were looking through the set of discs she had found, I began to notice that most of these actually weren’t even movie discs. Some of them were games, some weren’t even CDs and were just really slim metal circles with holes in the middle, and some were weights that you’d apply onto exercise equipment. Nonetheless though, she did find at least three actual movie discs. One was about action; a story of an undercover agent lost in the jungle after his helicopter crashed. I remember watching this in the City, it was okay. Another was a comedic action movie about a wife and husband trying poorly to plan a fun road trip with their family only to discover that the wife was actually a top-secret agent who planned for them to go there because she was on a secret mission. And finally the third one was an outright romantic movie about two star-crossed lovers that couldn’t be together because of their ancient family feud: I can scarcely remember watching this movie as well, it had brought tears to my eyes. “Okay so we have an action movie, funny action movie, and a romantic movie, which one do you want to watch?” I asked while holding up the three choices. “Will I understand the… jokes… in the... funny one?” Vanera asked with a slightly cocked head. “Oh,” I silently said to myself, I hadn’t thought of that. She might not clearly understand any of the human jokes or issues it had. “Alright then, how about the action one? This is just about straight up survival in the jungle after an agent’s aircraft crashes in one.” I said with a slight grin on my face, almost sure she’d pick something as intense as that. Vanera gestured with her arms at me, “Are you not doing that though? Also, what is an ‘age... ant’?” I mentally face palmed myself and placed both of the discs down besides me, “Alright well we have one more. It’s a romance movie about this man and women who cannot be together because of an ancient family feud between their families.” Vanera rubbed her masked chin, “Why can they not be together because of simply their families?” “Because their families hate each other and forbid it.” “Interesting… I would like to know more of this.” Oh crap. I thought as I looked at the disc in my hand. I was about to watch a straight up romantic movie that makes me cry with a Fallen. What would she think of me when she saw me cry? I continued to stare at the disc responsible for my dilemma. Curse my heart. “Alrighty,” I chuckled nervously. “Romance movie it is then… woo….” I got off of the bed and inserted the disc into the CD player under the TV. I pressed the power button to the side of it and to my surprise, the screen blinked to life and the movie almost immediately started to play. I sat back down on the bed next to Vanera and began to watch the movie anxiously with her. Vanera squinted at the movie and was getting annoyed by a bright spot at the top of the TV, making her unable to correctly see. “The light is being an problem.” she mumbled before turning to the small blue machine on the nightstand. She looked at it cautiously and unhooked a bulky black cord from the machine and placed it next to it. All of the lights in the room turned off, leaving only the TV to keep the room from total darkness. “Success.” she satisfyingly muttered once she saw that the glare was no longer there. She spun back around to face the TV next to me. I silently thanked the Traveler once again, knowing she couldn't see my blushing red face in the dull lighting. We watched the movie in almost total silence, except for the parts that confused Vanera so she had to ask me questions every now and then. “Human Atlas,” she asked. “Why is the woman leaking water from her eyes?” I felt my face turn redder. “B-Because she is sad. Humans do that when they are sad or sometimes, very rarely, happy.” I answered. Not even thirty minutes into the movie and already I felt my eyes begin to tear up. I quickly used my sleeve to wipe them away before they got a chance to run down my face. Stop it you stupid eyes! CEASE! I screamed inside of my head. “Human Atlas,” Vanera started with another question. “Why does the man keep pursuing her when clearly she does not want him? Clearly she is not a suitable mate, judging by her behavior towards him.” “She’s only saying those things because she knows they can’t be together.” I said, trying hard not to cry at the thought of it. “She is trying to drive him away so she doesn’t break his heart.” “So she doesn’t kill him?!” Vanera asked wide-eyed and alarmed. “No, no, no,” I assured. “It’s a saying meaning so she doesn’t make him feel very, very sad.” “...oh.” Vanera said. Finally the end of the movie came, the time where my eyes would ultimately betray me. But thankfully, Vanera was there to distract me from those emotions. “Human Atlas, why is she wearing such ridiculous white armor? That couldn’t protect her against even a needle.” Vanera stated. “It’s a wedding gown. It is human tradition for the female, the bride, to wear that to the wedding ceremony.” I said, still trying hard to fight back my tears. I looked over at Vanera and I could see she was still confused with something. “What is a wedding?” she asked. “Uhm… a wedding is like the last stage in someone’s love life. It’s where they truly express their love for one another in front of everyone they know. Being wed to someone is a sign of the ultimate bond of love and trust you both have for each other. They will be together now forever, no one can separate them...” I said, purposely leaving out divorces. I heard Vanera grunt in interest and whisper something to herself in her native language, but I heard “love” in there somewhere. At long last, the wedding concluded with a kiss and the audience all applauded. And I couldn’t help myself, I started to silently sob and the tears streamed down my face. But to my utmost relief, Vanera wasn’t paying attention to me. Vanera was… was… I looked over at Vanera and I started to hear a low hum fill the room. Was she? Was she purring? Fallens purred!? I started to laugh quietly, knowing and secretly rejoicing now that I knew that I wasn’t the only one feeling any emotions. I smiled happily.

Do y'all want to see them become roommates or keep them separate with Atlas is his outpost? Also, I am going to introduce some new characters into this story soon. Just a heads up. So some chapters might be about them and their journey and how they end up meeting Atlas. So just a heads up!
