Escalation Protocol Rewards

Hey folks, seeing a number of questions on how the rewards will work in Escalation Protocol so I wanted to try to clear it up a bit and get folks on the same page without people needing to stalk my Twitter timeline (which, as it is finally going to be nice in Seattle this weekend, will probably mostly be cats/beer/drone flying) Escalation Protocol rewards are split up in to 3 main channels: vanity, weapons, and armor. Each channel operates a little bit different to give people different pursuits and provide rewards at different rates/tiers. I think the diversity of this reward delivery is something we haven't done a lot of in Destiny 2, so I'm super curious how it feels once you get your hands on it. That aside, let's jump in! Vanity: These rewards are low drop chance, and can come out of any Escalation Protocol chest you open during the event. The further in you get, the higher chance the chest has to grant one of the EP exclusive vanity items. However, even if you can only clear up to wave 3 (the first wave that spawns a chest upon completion) then you can get a chance (admittedly very low...) at getting one of the vanity items. EP has an exclusive Ship, Sparrow, and Ghost. Weapons: These are your grindable rewards. They don't drop as power upgrades past the soft cap (so you'll want to infuse something in to them if you're past 340) but you can spend as much time chasing them in a week as you want. They're a low drop chance from the wave 7 boss, and the reward pool changes for the different bosses. Three of the bosses have a specific weapon (between shotgun, sniper rifle, and smg) tied to them and will only drop that weapon. The other two bosses can drop any of the three weapons if you just want to grind and roll the dice. Armor: The armor set comes from a chest that appears after beating the wave 7 boss. This chest requires a key to open, and characters can earn one key a week by playing other Warmind activities to build and charge their key. The armor pieces that come out of the chest are awarded in a specific order, and you won't see repeats until you've collected the entire armor set. The order is Class Item -> Legs -> Arms -> Chest -> Head. (If you're wondering why Class Item is first, well, I main a Hunter. Capes for life.) I should note that while not really part of one of the three main reward channels, the unique Escalation Protocol shader is one of my personal favorites (because I love orange) and comes from killing the final boss. Hope this clears up any confusion, and let me know if there are any other questions about EP rewards I can hopefully help with.

  • Started a new topic: Void Hunter “mele grenades “ cooldown by grenade mods or mele mod?(2 Replies))

  • Not the kind of grind I was looking for.......stuff better drop at a higher rate than the stinking NF......which has been 0 for me, or I think I may be finally moving on. The grind is real and not rewarding.

  • OR.... You open a chest, ———— it gives you a choice of package, ———————- vanity, weapon or armour. A bit like ranking a faction in D1.
How cool would that be?
• That is fine and all and looks like there are some heavy things to try and achieve but the big question is, will they be worth it? The rewards now are pretty good the first time they drop but what is there to bring us back once we have them all? Don't need random rolls back but at least give us more variety with the mods and maybe even a second slot for them. You guys did a great job with the perks for D1 but they fell way short in D2.

    • I might represent the minority here but the game does not really need new guns and gear as such. The difference between non-exotics is rather minuscule. I would rather have fewer weapons, for example, but each would have vastly different powerful perks, looks and perhaps different ways to customize them with player choice affecting stats and perks both. Upgrading gear would be a process that happens during a long period of play. Each piece of gear would have several nodes that branch out. Eventually you could have two instances of same weapon suited for completely different purposes. Enemy gear sets with wildly different utility would be nice too.

        • First and foremost: I absolutely love getting in depth and clear feedback from a dev on the forums. It tells me they've made something they're proud of, and im looking forward to grinding for their efforts. The number of times a dev has posted on the forums in the past is few and far between and this abnormality makes me feel like they are proud of the work they've done. I know we have "community managers" but hearing it straight from the horses mouth is immeasurablly superior. Secondmost: I like the sound of "Vanity" items (shaders/ornaments) locked behind a grind. Insteaed of a handout for participation. I hope this dlc turns this ship 180* i love the lore and genuine enjoyment this franchise has brought me and i don't want it to end due to poor decisions above the devs paygrade. To the Dev that took the time out of their busy day to mingle with the consumers: Eyes up gaurdian. The war's not over yet.

          • Think your going to need to make more loot before the first lot of bosses have been beat and all loot earned or the numbers will drop drastically again

                  • So, Im pretty stoked for new activities. But, what yall at Bungie fail to understand is that, for so many players, games are thier 'god'. They spend endless hours chasing meaningless things and even more meaningless accolades. Because this pursuit is so empty they will never be pleased and the forums will continue to be poisened by malcontent. The only hope you have is determining some way to create content that creates itself. That way, new stuff is constantly added.

                      • Thanks for the great post sir, this is the type of communication from you guys that can initiate a constructive conversation with the players. I am still concerned about the replayability due to the small and static loot pool, but will withhold judgment until it's released and the masses start posting their feedback. I'm definitely not preordering but will buy in a flash if it turns out to be good. You guys have built some pretty complicated mechanics to get these weapons which is great, until we have them all. My suggestion would be to have a tier system where replaying this event once we have a specific weapon or armor gives us the opportunity to unlock upgrades/mods for said weapon/armor. Assuming the upgrades are worth it it would skyrocket replayability, as least for me. If you're not going to have either a huge pool of static drops, or differing versions of a few then you need a system that involves players having to continue to participate in these events in order to "level up" the gear. Just my 2 cents.
