Escalation Protocol Rewards

Hey folks, seeing a number of questions on how the rewards will work in Escalation Protocol so I wanted to try to clear it up a bit and get folks on the same page without people needing to stalk my Twitter timeline (which, as it is finally going to be nice in Seattle this weekend, will probably mostly be cats/beer/drone flying) Escalation Protocol rewards are split up in to 3 main channels: vanity, weapons, and armor. Each channel operates a little bit different to give people different pursuits and provide rewards at different rates/tiers. I think the diversity of this reward delivery is something we haven't done a lot of in Destiny 2, so I'm super curious how it feels once you get your hands on it. That aside, let's jump in! Vanity: These rewards are low drop chance, and can come out of any Escalation Protocol chest you open during the event. The further in you get, the higher chance the chest has to grant one of the EP exclusive vanity items. However, even if you can only clear up to wave 3 (the first wave that spawns a chest upon completion) then you can get a chance (admittedly very low...) at getting one of the vanity items. EP has an exclusive Ship, Sparrow, and Ghost. Weapons: These are your grindable rewards. They don't drop as power upgrades past the soft cap (so you'll want to infuse something in to them if you're past 340) but you can spend as much time chasing them in a week as you want. They're a low drop chance from the wave 7 boss, and the reward pool changes for the different bosses. Three of the bosses have a specific weapon (between shotgun, sniper rifle, and smg) tied to them and will only drop that weapon. The other two bosses can drop any of the three weapons if you just want to grind and roll the dice. Armor: The armor set comes from a chest that appears after beating the wave 7 boss. This chest requires a key to open, and characters can earn one key a week by playing other Warmind activities to build and charge their key. The armor pieces that come out of the chest are awarded in a specific order, and you won't see repeats until you've collected the entire armor set. The order is Class Item -> Legs -> Arms -> Chest -> Head. (If you're wondering why Class Item is first, well, I main a Hunter. Capes for life.) I should note that while not really part of one of the three main reward channels, the unique Escalation Protocol shader is one of my personal favorites (because I love orange) and comes from killing the final boss. Hope this clears up any confusion, and let me know if there are any other questions about EP rewards I can hopefully help with.

  • Why don’t you guys stop putting out little content that can only be unlocked week by week and instead start putting out more content that is randomly rolled like it used to be so experienced players can grind as much as they want throughout the week. Lmao enjoy the influx of players every Tuesday and then a sharp decline for the rest of the week once everyone gets there one item 😂

  • So more time gated nonsense, continued tone-deaf progression mechanics, and what sounds like a depressingly narrow supply of unique rewards. Also, on a personal and tangential note: orange shaders? >_< How about some shaders with bright green and black? And how about increasing the shader inventory space to match the number of shaders in the game? It’s dumb how much of my postmaster space is wasted on holding shaders I don’t have room to store. Or just revert shaders towards D1 designs like should have been done ages ago: unlocks that are trivially swapped rather than depressing consumables that actively discourage changing them.

If it doesn't drop endgame loot, then stop calling it an endgame activity!!!!Endgame activities help you reach the endgame power level. If it doesn't than it's just another heroic public event. This is really disappointing news , I hope Bungie realizes this terrible error and changes it before launch. But experience tells me they wont. If this kind of backwards thinking still resides at Bungie, than Warmind will just be another joke that people use to make fun of Destiny

      • No power upgrades ? People played Cout of Orix and Archons Forge cause it helped them leveling up to max lvl if they didn´t play raids or nightfalls. What´s the use of an activity that wont help us lvl up? Cosmetics and the same weapons that we already have in game with a slightly different look? Nah, after Warmind it´s over for me. But at least i appreciate the honesty, now i know that Destiny2 is no longer the game that i expected to be when i started playing 4 years ago.

        • So instead of allowing the people who like to rush through stuff and get everything in the first week, you're dragging out the "shallowness" and forcing at least 5 weeks with the key mechanic. Red flag 1. Soft capped weapons for an "end game" activity? Red flag 2. Only a chance to get any of the weapons and/or vanity items. Unless the RNG has been addressed this is Red flag 3.

Wow, I so wish I had your explanation available to read before I bought the Season Pass. Any excitement I had is now gone. Soft caps on under powered weapons that few people even bother with? I will never again pre order a DLC from Bungie even if it means I don’t get a special pre order weapon like the Cold Heart trace rifle again (wait that gun is no good and I got twenty of them on normal game play after I bought the game so I guess even a special pre order gun is not a good reason to pre order a DLC). You guys seem to want to create an elite club where the average player can’t max out or get the best gear. But common sense should tell you that the vast majority of your player base is average players (who pay the same money as your elite players) and the average peons want the same access to the best stuff without committing their lives to the intense practice of the game. Please go back to more random drops of the best gear so that all players have a decent chance to get max light and the best gear. If the elite want special recognition give them special capes that say “ we are better than you peons because we beat tougher levels in faster times”. Heck to be a truly elite game player they should be playing at lower levels than the average player actually. Then you could have special capes or glowing auras for the level 300 players who managed to beat a prestige Nightfall. The rest of us average players just want lots of kick ass gear so we can blow stuff up and kill the bad guys with no more than three head shots each and basically just have fun after a hard days work. We want to escape for a while, not practice to become professional gamers. Appease the 80% and you’ll sell more DLCs than if you cater to the 20%. Give the elite some special badges or glows or capes. Give everyone more content with equal chances for all to receive the best gear and maximum light level whether they play as a solo or on a team or even, dare I say, as a casual.

Hell I grinded my ass off to get the dead orbit ghost ship. But to spread something over 5 weeks is just dumb. You guys just ad more insult to injury with this shit!

              • now that you have released the reward pools i thank you because I will NOT be purchasing Warmind.. This sounds absolutely awful, your calling this an end-game activity and yet it does not provide power level upgrades? are all the designers at bungie high? its an honest question, how can it be end game if it doesn't provide end game power levels? only 3 weapons? people will be done with this in a day, and then only do it once a week because you time-gated the armour. Which whenever a developer time gates something you know its because they don't actually have enough content for players to be playing it all the time. This has so many warning signs that im opting out of this attempted hype train xpac.

Why would an endgame activity drop gear that isn't relevant in the end game due to low level? Bungie are still smoking the same shit.

                  • Bungie: Hey, check out this cool Ikelos weapons you can get from the ESC Protocols! Me: Woah! That's sick! Are there more? Bungie: No, just 3. Me: Okay... well, they're at least gonna be good weapons that spawn at high light levels because this activity is super hard, right? Bungie: Nope. They're all soft capped at 340. Bungie, seriously. What the -blam!- are you smoking? I love you guys and this game to death, but for real, what the hell are you guys doing? You make this really difficult public event type thing, with 7 excruciating waves, which is said to be very difficult. And yet, all the rewards are soft capped to 340, which is just 5 points above the current maximum level? Seriously? I'm not happy, Bungie. Please fix this.

                    • They said you can enter and grind this event as many times as you like a week so I imagine a milestone will be attached. So for example for first item at X level / wave offers a high level drop. After that you can still grind for everything but it won't be high level. Gives you the best of both worlds and stops people complaining there is nothing to do after 1 week.

                    • To everyone complaining that there are only 3 weapons in this new DLC, it’s entirely possible that there are more, but they are hidden in secret activities. Given Bungie’s horrendous track record of late, it is understandable that players lack faith in them though.
