We are products of poor game design...

Small notion. Just like society is morphed into a product of culture change, so is a player base the product of a developer’s game design. . Example: The conversation over at Epic and around 50v 50 currently is that they are seeing behavioral changes in their player base as a whole. On a mass level. In this mode, they see more team oriented mindsets (sharing). Key point the mind is changing on larger scale. Now the focus of this post isn’t Fortnite or Epic but on behavioral patterns within a player base a whole. . The main point is this, if a game’s core design is positive at the front end, it will reinforce good behavior on the back end within the player base as a whole. Happiness or *eudaimonia*. . Cycle this back to Destiny and Destiny 2. What have we seen in her history? The player base has been littered with poor behavioral patterns, toxicity, and an elitst mentality. It is running rampant within the Destiny construct/universe. This is not the player base’s fault. The player base as a whole is a product of either, poor game design in relation to a game’s core identity structures; or great game design, in relation to identity structures. . Also in today’s games that are considered “live” and constantly updated, it is highly important to keep your game design cohesive within an identity construct OR foundation. Boundaries. . Laying boundries not only for your game but also for the player base will reign in poor player behaviors on a larger scale. This isn’t something I just realized either, just because >Fortnite. It’s something I discuss often enough irl and with others situationally here and on Reddit. Fortnite’s circumstances just happened to be in perfect timing to explain this to more than one person at a time. . Basically in layman’s terms if Bungie fixes the game in the right areas (priorities), at the right time (strategies), in the right manner in relation to a LIVING AND BREATHING player base (feedback), simultaneously joined with a clear identity (Destiny), the game or IP could recover EVENTUALLY because we are products of our environments. Positivity breeds positivity. Negativity breeds negativity. This is the case since we were born, so why would this change for people in a virtual environment?

  • The Elitiest Mentality, you’ll miss it now it’s gone. Now you can just play with casuals, products of bad parenting, single parents and Immergrants. No to mention all the sex offenders on lfg, looking for kids to play with. This game was about being sociable, shame really that, that was expected from the start. I really hate games where it puts you with islamists in Iraq, when your just trying to have a game of PvP. Thus worst match making in history...

      • The current VG industry is our reality of poor game design. The minimal viable product + MTX philosophy has continued to increase over the past 10 years. With no end in sight.

Stop trying to pass the blame on to bungie for not being responsible for your own actions Yeah the game was poorly designed, that's obvious to anyone who's ever played D1 or D2. But Bungie is not forcing toxicity from people on this forum. Bungie is not forcing you to be an asshole

        • So bungie is responsible for a large part of the community insulting people that enjoy the game? Yeah, you premise sounds right but the truth is that bungie listened to the community and delivered many of the things it asked for and then got crapped all over for it.

          • D2 raids: if you die the whole group dies with you = collective punishment D1 raids: can die doing something for the team and the team can continue on without you depending on individual roles and still finish the encounter = altruism/hero moments.

So bungie should emphasize on working together to accomplish things and be rewarded for it. Instead of against each other. Isn't this what the raid is meant to do but it is still full of toxicity half of the time?

                • you dont mention the vast numbers in the forums who it will not matter to what changes bungie makes. D2 could get such a dlc in sept that it leaves D1 far behind choking in dust and these toxic players will still - without playing it - claim the game is dead, sucks, bungie sucks, D1 is still better - they have reached the point they dont even want the game to be fixed. nothing is going to convince them otherwise. i doubt that even had they been to bungie and SEEN whats coming, and seen it was good, and fixes lots of things, that they would stop abusing everyone who enjoys D2 and bungie, and claim the game is dead.

                • That would make sense in a healthy relationship. Bungie has been secretive and dishonest with its players. Recently Bungie released a video showcasing the abilities of the upgraded Graviton Lance. There were 2 other players off-screen team shooting the adds. People believe that one Graviton Lance kill can wipe out a group of adds. The latest video showcasing the Skyburner's Oath has a jumpcut in it. Either it was cut to make us believe that the weapon cleared the adds faster or they edited out the part where the player got overwhelmed by adds. A positive mental attitude is usually a good thing. When combined with other positive actions it is a pathway to success and good relationships. When denial is involved it can be the worst. If you are in an abusive relationship, a positive mental attitude is permission to continue abuse. If Bungie shows real, meaningful desire to win back our trust and respect the community who stuck with them throughout the tumultuous events of D1 from release to AoT then be positive. A real friend will tell you when you're wrong, when you've messed up.

                • I get that. Pvp was made for squads and when I played with a full team we would have a good win ratio and kill ratio which made me enjoy it and defend it when solo pvp players would moan about it.

                • this is an interesting read. - also, I kinda want to go watch the Matrix now for some reason. or play super Mario, something about taking either the blue pill or red pill and eating mushrooms could be relevant. yet its an intellectually rewarding post. the Crux of the Matter is, - people will call shit shit, that's it. the Scenario that applies to my statement is that we are people sitting in an Expensive Restaurant, we order the chefs special and we get a dollop of green shit surrounded by flowers. now we dont want the green shit anymore and we want a steak so the steak arrives at your table but it is burnt. you then Politely send it back, and it returns in the same state, 2 hours later. you then slightly get pissed off, but because your wife is sitting across the table you suck it up and send it back again, and ask for a new steak. 3 hours later they give you the same shit and you had enough, you lose your shit. you then go and write shitty reviews on a foodblog no one really cares about, and the restaurant is just like we don't care, the 2 people that come here every Tuesday, still loves it.

                • You’re right on the money. However, that requires a monumental shift in Bungie’s company and corporate culture. That requires Bungie to change how they communicate with us. That requires Bungie to value ideas and innovations over nepotism and favoritism. They have to change from vague and cryptic to clear and upfront. They have to change from thinking they live in a bubble where they’re right all the time to humbling themselves to accepting there may be good ideas amongst their community. Once the mindset changes, then the game can change to where people want to play. Then that’ll change the community itself.

                  • They can't deliver it in time: the Tiger engine is that bad, I personally think that is one of the major facets of the toxicity: LACK OF CONTENT. This creates resentment in the players which is then reflected upon other PvE/PvP players. It also goes against one of the main points Luke Smith stated in this engine 'rebuild' to deliver more content - that was a boundary broken by the Devs. This is another source of resentment for the player. It's currently a never ending cycle of distrust and resentment amongst ourselves while Bungie lie or say nothing at all.

                          • The game doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Players are responsible for their actions more than Bungie. Of course there could be changes to facilitate positivity but that doesn’t absolve people of their actions.
