I have to disagree. At least for me that was not why I used exotics in D1. It was perks like Red Deaths healing ability, Bad Juju's reloading, Telestos delayed explosions creating orbs. They had specific uses that worked well in certain events. Yes, many D1 exotics were devestating and rightfully so. If an exotic is not head and shoulders above everything else, either with a very useful talent or incredible killing ability it's useless, which describes 99 percent of the exotics in D2.

 • That described most d1 exotics as well. Telesto and red death were never super popular. And rarely used outside of a few select situations There are a ton of exotics that were borderline useless. Yes you may have been the one guy who mained red death but An arbitrary use can be found for any weapon

 • Group dynamics shape our impressions. Just because your group didn't like something doesn't make it unpopular or unused. I am far from the only player that found uses for red death and if the blogs are to be believed it was a very popular. In D1 there were differing opinions among players, but the general consensus was relatively uniform when it came to exotics and their purpose. In D2 there are still differing opinions but the general consensus is that, with very few exceptions they suck.

 • I don't necessarily disagree But the point I'm trying to make is why they suck My issue is that that suck because they're not unique or interesting (for the most part) The forums general direction is that they suck because they don't do a Lot of damage By definition exotics are meant to be unique and interesting. Exotic doesn't mean powerful. And that's the intending direction of the weapon class, according to Bungie Exotics weren't meant to be better than their legendary counterparts outside of a few select situations. But instead were meant to augment a players build or playstyle. Not be the end all be all like with D1s gjallarhorn, black spindle, and so on

 • I agree with what you said to an extent. If exotics weren't meant to be powerful then why spend 3+ years making them such a challenge on acquiring them? see, knowing in Y1 they were unique and powerful Bungie spent the next 3+ years watering them down but still trying to make them out to be more then what they actually are at this point. IMO they are still trying to use D1 vanillas concept of being unique and powerful but they are no where near what D1 was and even what ROI offered. Being unique as far as visual goes doesn't cut it if a weapon isn't fun to use and that means being powerful.

 • I agree the perks are everything and they should be functional and designed with certain events in mind otherwise it's just another weapon. Same thing with armor.
