We need a single player "raid"
I've been playing alot of ESO lately and one of my favorite activities in that game is Maelstrom Arena, which is basically a 1 player raid. It is some of the most challenging content in the game with unique rewards to match. I think it would be awesome if they added something comparable in Destiny 2. Just wondering you guys thoughts on this, and would it be something you would enjoy? Thanks for your input...peace!

78 RepliesI love the idea. This isn't the first time someone has brought it up. Obviously, it can't be fully like a Raid that requires multiple mechanics to be performed at the same time. But I will absolutely pass along feedback about possibly adding difficult activities with interesting mechanics like Raids that are still possible to do solo. Thanks for sharing.

1 ReplyThe game definitely needs more PvE content that has replay value. With value I do not mean rewards but joy one experiences while playing. Strikes were nice at first but even performing the weekly milestones becomes a mindnumbing drudgery. The game lacks tools within the game for players to connect and work with when it comes to raids and nightfalls and trials. Why they were designed to block some of the players out I cannot ever comprehend. Big PvE that allows bunch of randoms to have a go at it. Horde defense and assault. New areas, warzones or somesuch that are more challenging(without featuring endless hordes of big bullet sponges). These should exist within the common gameworld and not as instances. They could periodically become active for a massive group effort. Somehow combining PvE with PvP could be fun too.

10 RepliesThis kind of thing would rekindle my interest in this game. It sounds along the lines of what I hoped lost sectors were. Tough areas on a world you can dive in to any time solo and you might die a few times but you'll crack it and earn something good. Additional idea, make the completion reward drop a fragment of an extra reward from a separate loot pool - with the other fragment obtainable by doing a Nightfall or Lair or Raid. Drive endgame participation with real incentive.

Also, if you go to youtube, you might just find a video on soloing the leviathan, I'm not sure. (edit) Okay, so, I couldn't find a video, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try! ^-^

Even if they repurposed lost sectors or infinite forest for this... that would be great. I hope they do something with infinite forest. It’s the perfect setting for anything. Like, literally anything can happen and be explained as a simulation. The only limit is Bungie’s imagination and effort. But, those are the reasons why infinite forest is so terrible to begin with, unfortunately.

I think it would be awesome if there were fun and challenging activities for solo players or small groups that offered raid tier rewards. I get that this is a social game but playing with groups constantly can be annoying. Sometimes I just want to play solo. Destiny basically says F you to those types of people.

Edited by Sol IX: 4/18/2018 1:35:57 PMI've always wanted them to add a single player raid or if possible an adaptive AI raid, like if you do a raid and have 2 people instead of four the AI readjusts to the player variants. It would be even cooler if that adaptive AI also changes the difficulties of the enemies, like if you and your squad are destroying the enemies then enemies get a boost to match your squads strength. As a person that mostly plays Destiny with his brother and not really a four person fire team I feel like I miss out on a lot, but that is a fault of my own.

I only recently completed Leviathan and EOW and I really enjoyed the challenge they presented. At the same time I was a little annoyed that it is such a different experience from the rest of the game, that I feel is gated and prohibitive for a lot of people to try out. I would NOT propose to dilute the raid or make it easier, but I strongly feel that more raid-like content should be available solo and 3 person. Also bear in mind that Strikes are not at all raid-like in my opinion, at least not currently.

He's desperate to drag me through an EoW but I jut can't be bothered anymore with relying on other people we don't know. If it was just him I know it would be an extremely rewarding experience. I remember when we two manned Crota and we had a blast and snapped up the flawless raider also.

I agree with this. Doing the Crota raid solo was extremely satisfying back in the day. The new raids require too much "standing on plates and jumping through hoops" to force the 6 man experience which has been off putting enough to keep me from raiding.

Absolutely agree. I would love to see 3-player variants of each raid as well. It would be nice to have many other endgame activities outside of the raids too that could scale from 1-3 players. Personally I don't enjoy 6-player content anymore.

All raids are not doable solo either as the mechanics will not allow it, but, all the other 4 man group content is doable solo bar a few off the vast amount off those dungeons! Like most games of the ilk, most 4 man content is doable solo if you have the gear and skill! Destiny doesn’t allow for his and probably never will, it caters to no one as stated by the lack off auto queues! Good idea but again the details are off importance, it was and never is a raid, it’s an arena! Bungie removed the arena, why?

What Infinite Forest should've been. IF should've been like Firefight from Reach, have it be a randomized 5 round firefight with increasing difficulty that scaled from 1 player to 3 player; and the ability to pick modifiers to make it interesting and fun.

Maelstrom is a raid? No, it's just a horde mode with a boss.
