I have a...well..crazy tinfoil hat theory about Savathûn.

And this is the first time, I’m hoping I’m wrong. As we all know, Savathûn is in control of both the hive, and the Taken. For the Hive, it seems like she is trying to keep their immortal souls while at the same time, riding themselves of their worms. For the Taken, she seems to have them be collecting large amounts of vacant light leftover, for some reason. Now, this might see a bit crazy, but what if she is planning to..well... resurrect Oryx? Again, I’m hoping I’m wrong. I want to be wrong. But if I’m right, we are screwed. With the current evidence I think it’s the case of us getting screwed. Like I said, Hive are trying to remove their worms. That way if Savathûn is able to resurrect Oryx, he wouldn’t need to worry about his worm eating him again. And Oryx is a being of partial darkness. A large sacrifice of light would be necessary for this. Plus, Oryx was able to revive Savathûn after she died in her ascendant realm (long story, Books of Sorrow). And we would need his body, which is probably still floating around the Dreadnaught. And the Dreadnaught isn gonna be a Location in a few months, maybe even a year to 2 years. Again, I hope to god I’m wrong.

  • Well, even if that could happen they would need a very large amount of energy and time devoted to it as seems, since Oryx is such a great being, and I'm sure guardians would be on constant watch if they heard of a threat of any kind

  • Honestly, I want to see her resurrect Dredgen Yor, and pit him against the Vanguard. Could be the final boss of the main story, and beating him unlocks the Revamped Thorn quest chain.

    • Technically Oryx revived SaVaThUn after killing her in his own ascendant realm.

    • Eh... Warcraft brought a boss from a previous expansion back once, 'resurrected by her offspring' and it was a 10 minute fight then she -blam!-ing exploded unceremoniously. It could happen but I doubt it'd really affect the story, as Bungie wouldn't -blam!- the universe that much, only so they can make more of it easily.

      • In the universe, it would be possible. As far as I’m aware, Hive go to an Ascendant Plane when they die. They could probably just space magic his ass outta there

        • Don’t think she will, since she kind of waited out a war with guardians until she had control of both the hive and taken. With Oryx, he would try to deny her that. She might resurrect him as a taken pawn, maybe as a asset against the guardians.

          • There are various quotes from the books of sorrow that refute any possibility of Oryx returning. Savathun died a true death in oryxs ascendant realm to allow oryx to gain her power. Her death was reversible because she did not perish in her own throne as stated multiple times by Oryx. Bungie can decide to retconn the rules established in the calcified fragments but that is really the only chance Oryx has at returning.

              • That's not crazy and is entirely, 100% both plausible and possible. In the books of sorrow, Auryx, Savathun, and Xivu Arath killed each other hundreds of times, becoming more powerful each time. For them, killing each other is an act of love and affection. When it came that the individuals' power was not enough to feed their respective worms, Auryx killed Savathun and Xivu Arath in their throne realms, giving them their first real death. With the power he gained from killing his sisters, he went on to kill the worm god Akka, and become the Taken King, Oryx. Being that it was a true death (because they died in their throne realms) they did not return. Until Oryx embodied the aspects of his sisters, cunning and trickery. He was able to revive them by embodying them and their ideals and aspects through an act of war (specifically against the Ecumene and Dakua Nest, if my memory serves me correctly). Fast forward to TTK, we kill Oryx on a part of the Dreadnought that is not part of his throne realm, and he returned in his throne as the giant boss in King's Fall. We kill Oryx in his throne realm in the raid, giving him his first real death. Therefore, being that Oryx has died a true death, it is plausible that Savuthun and/or Xivu Arath could revive him by embodying his aspects in an act of war. Personally, I do not believe that to be the case. I believe we last saw Savathun leave this dimension on one of her War Moons, and that was when she and Xivu Arath were revived, potentially hundreds of years ago. Judging by some of the context in d2, I don't think Savathun is the leader of the Taken, I think she controls them through Quria, Blade Transform, a taken hydra gifted to her by Oryx. The taken can technically "take" by transferring the blight to living entities, which is how we got the taken Red Legion soldier in the ps4 strike. Therefore, I believe Savathun's ambitions are much higher than reviving Oryx. She likely wants to take his place instead.

                • What would give you the impression that she is trying to rid the Hive of the Worms? Remember that every Hive you kill in D2 with a precision kill a Worm larvae or even two will pop out. The Worms are still present.

Well think about it this way. After Savathun and Xivu' Arath's true deaths, Oryx was able to bring them back by 'defining' their existence. That hasn't happened with Oryx yet. His existence has yet to be defined in that same way, as far as I know. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

What if Savathun uses this to create Taken Oryx and Taken Crota and they become the Lieutenants of her armies. Crota, Blade of the Queen is in Control of the Hive and Oryx, Eye of Darkness Would be in Control of the Taken. Quira, Blade Transform would also be there and She and an infinite army of Taken Vex would act as the queens Personal Guard. They would be the Leaders of the New Hive empire, with Savathun as Empress and Crota, Oryx, and Quira as the Sub Leaders. Or Bungie could just make a Carbon Copy of Dark Below and just say "Because space magic"

According to the sword logic of the Taken/Hive, if you are defeated in the ascended realm you cease to exist(almost as if you never existed).

                            • According to the lore that bungie wishes to forget for some reason, she has to do something Oryx stood for. In the lore Oryx brought his sisters back by first conquering a planet, which brought back Xivu Arath or whoever, and then back stabbed her or some alien leader which brought back Savathun. Keep in mind this was after they were killed in both their throne worlds and the real world. To bring Oryx back she would have to try and understand something in the universe. Perhaps the light? By doing so the taken king would be back. Theoretically according to lore bungie isn't using anymore
