This happens with a lot of games. For the past few years I’ve been trying to decide if games are getting shittier or am I getting older and just not as interested in gaming. I’ve decided it’s some of both, but more in line with games being shitty.

  • It's the same thing for pretty much anything that is produced for mass consumption. The standards of fast food these days are slipping, Big Macs are getting smaller and pricier, KFC chicken is getting smaller and less finger licking good. When mobile phones came out you could rely on your Nokia to last out a contract and probably several years down the track these days, you're lucky if your smart phone lasts a 18 months without something going wrong, same thing with cars, washing machines, and any other consumer goods.

  • I've been wondering the same thing over the last year or two. I think it's that games just aren't as interesting to me anymore. The whole corporatization of videogames has really killed it for me. That EVERY franchise has to be a yearly release now when it used to only be CoD that was that way. That every game has to work in microtransactions the same way that every game was trying to work in multiplayer where it didn't belong. It's just a bummer. Creativity is only present with independent studios. I hope there will be a renaissance within gaming soon and change where it's headed/been.

  • I think as the bar is raised, we grow more critical and demanding. I loved Contra, but that fxcking game sucks right now. Fxck that game. Destiny has it beat by a mile. But in the age of the Witcher or The Last of Us? Generic bare bones story in a AAA gamev like Destiny ain't gonna fly. Even if it beats the hell out of swinging Bowser by the tail.

  • Contra has never stopped being awesome. Don't know what you're talking about m8.

  • It's awesome. But it's outdated by now. Contra vs The Witcher? Contra vs Red Dead Remption? Contra vs The Last of Us? Contra vs WoW? You see my point. It's a great game, but a lot of advances have been made.

  • You're comparing totally different games you jabroni. Contra will always be a great game regardless of what other games come out.

  • Ah. The good old "these are totally different kinds of games" bullshit. It's an arcade style side scroller, which I guess is only comparable to mobile games now. Doesn't matter which way you slice it, games nowadays don't come with rose tinted glasses, so nothing is going to be better in that case. It's a 16 bit game that might provide a few hours of entertainment now. Netflix is also kinda better than VHS now. I mean, unless of course you wanna say those are totally different platforms and what not. I guess everything is still great when you can't compare it to modern media.

  • lol you are daft m8 VHS and Netflix are platforms, not content. 16-bit shooter is a style of game, which are still getting made today. The Witcher is a modern Fantasy RPG Please tell me outside of being "videogames" where these two things are comparable. It's the equivalent of comparing Citizen Kane to the LoTR movies.

  • How many hairs do you have to split to compare them? Compared to virtually any console game today, 16 bit fxckin blows. That's the point. It's my opinion, but so be it. The other examples are just that... examples. Who gives a fxck if they are platforms and not content. It's the same concept though. If you give people the option to play only one game for the rest of their life, they ain't picking 16 bit Contra over The Witcher. No matter how bad ass it was back in its day.

  • Yeah, the whole retro gaming community(millions)would disagree with you there, buddy. You're very ignorant, m8.

  • Cool, whatever. Contra is still superb compared to modern games because of retro freaks that still froth at the mouth over sidescrollers.
