"You just wait for Anthem, it'll kill Destiny, it's going to be so great..."
Amateurs. Break the cycle by expecting the betrayal.

The biggest red flag being that Anthem is an EA title. The only hope I have for it is because it's being made by the team that made the original Mass Effect trilogy.

The team or the studio, though? It's been a lot of years since the original mass effect trilogy. Also, those guys were garbage at side quests - I'm an above-the-law intragalactic policeman investigating a rogue agent and an existential threat to the existence of civilization in the galaxy, but I also have to put up with endless shitty sidequests. And planet scanning, don't forget that.

Not sure how much of that original team is still there. I enjoyed the side quests and such, that's just pointing out the flaw with any rpg. They all have seemingly silly side quests while some over arching impending doom is coming.

There were some notable exceptions though, like, the Elder Scrolls series and Fallout 3 and New Vegas, they arguably had better side quests than main quests. Remember the Ultima series, where (after UIV), half the point of you being the Avatar (of the seven virtues) was to go through the land being a good example to people - so at least there was a main-plot-related reason why you were doing stupid side quests.
