Of course, he wouldn't have to propose a ban for people with mental health issues from owning firearms if Trump hadn't signed an executive order repealing Obama's legislation that sought to do just that.

So what you're saying is that you'd be ok with people having their rights taken away because the government says they're "mentally deranged?" Gonna have to be more specific than that.

Edited by Liam_the_Censor: 2/24/2018 5:26:21 AMIt was actually a mandate that would prevent Americans from exercising their constitutional rights and mentally defective was defined as not being able to do one’s finances. The Republicans just said the government cannot define mental illness like that.

Funny, the ACLU agreed with Trump on this... "The ACLU, which advocates for people with mental health struggles, said the rule reinforced a stereotype that people with mental disabilities are violent. The organization argued in a letter to members of Congress that there's no data to support a connection between receiving disability benefits and a propensity toward gun violence."

It was a joke. I remember Vandelay always complained about how they were dirty Jews or something like that.

Edited by OLDSCRATCH4: 2/24/2018 1:17:43 AMFalse. It's been federal law for a very long time.
Federal Law Under 18 U.S.C. § 922(d), it is unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person “has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.
Most states expand further on this federal law. No, Trump didn't get rid of this law.

That proposed law was a mess, even the ACLU opposed it. Some of the people who would have been affected were people who were on ssi disability and received help with thier finances. Did you even read it? As it stands it's still against federal law, and almost all state laws, to own or purchase a firearm if you're mentally ill. Should we have better (more in depth) enforcement? Sure, but that particular law (rule) was a huge mess.
