Is d2 even in the same universe as d1? None of the charcters ever say anything about the things your guardian did. for example in Curse of Osiris, Osiris is talking with our ghost about oryx and sagira says "you know oryx is dead right" yeah IM THE ONE WHO KILLED HIM. Or how Osiris says we never showed up in simulations? Well thats weird because I feel the vex would want to simulate the guy who killed atheon in the vault of glass. Another example is lord Saladin and how he no longer knows us or what we did. We were Iron lords and defeated siva but now because we lost that sword he gave us all of it never happened?
Can someone at bungie please just tell us what actually happened in the lore what has our guardian done because at this point all of it is so messed up all the lore feels meaningless since some of it will just be disgarded. In a year from now will we still be the one deemed worthy by calus? Will we still be the guardian who beat ghaul and the red legion? This game needs to sort out what happens and decide whether everything ingame is canon or not and make it clear when it isnt.

Did you guys hear something?

I also wonder about this. You are called "the guardian zavala won't shut up about" but then on the first mission on Io when your ghost sees the taken it doesn't know what they are nor does it know what the taken "goo" is even though you were fighting the taken for a while in d1 and you killed oryx the TAKEN king. I think either your guardian isn't the same guardian or your ghost is malfunctioning or something like that. If they were making it so that the new players got some background info on the taken they could have done it a lot better like having your ghost say something like "oh great taken. Remember them?" Instead they just made it seem like you might not be the same guardian
-
There's also a lore tab on (i believe) the vangaurd class item detailing a conversation between the vangaurd leaders the sum of which is that we(the gaurdian) have surpassed even them.

I think it’s a screw up in the writing. Ghost does recognize the Taken on IO, he says the clearly to Ikora, but Saladin doesn’t seem to recognize you but sometimes he does, Zavala mentions your exploits but only sometimes, they probably were trying to build two lines of dialogue depending on whether you were new or returning but either abandoned the idea halfway through or screwed up the implementation

Story is hard 😬

Bring back random rolls!! Save the game!!

I have a theory. Maybe the game does that because you aren't necessarily the same guardian in d2 as you were in d1. Well, you can be if you decided to transfer over your character. Maybe that's why the game is vague on it. Because it lets you choose to be a new guardian, or the one you started out with. But then there's statements directed towards you like "there's Saladin's young wolf" (Shaxx). So maybe my theory is flawed

let's be honest...
you're pretty forgettable.
-
You were actually in a coma the whole time after House if Wolves.
-
Your guardian is just "folklore"...
-
Zavala does say, "... what is that to you who has slain gods in the heart of the black garden.." during inverted spire strike. but yes I do kind of agree with what you say, they do ignore a lot from D1. Still think the grimoire behind The Last Word is a more interesting story than the cumaltive D1+D2 campaigns so far.
-
Zavala recognizes you, he's like "what is this to you who have slain gods in the heart of the black garden?" But I don't remember when he says that. I haven't played in forever.

We’re a vex simulation from the beginning. Oooooooooooooooooo.🤪

Because this game is fancy fish tank with a picture of the ocean taped to the glass. It always has been. I started playing Red Dead Redemption and it feels more like a living world than Destiny and it came out in 2010

I acknowledge you

...is a game... a bad game, with no story and no sense as sequel. --->"shoot and collect coins"
-
It's the result of the two games development cycles overlapping partially, the lore/game getting hit with the casual bat, and a game of musical chairs being played with cut content.
-
It’s all a Dream. Just click your heals together and say there is no place like home.
-
As far as the vex simulating us, they can't simulate Light, so they can't accurately replicate a guardian.
-
She was saying that about oryx because they were talking about the possibility of him using the infinite forest. She meant it as more of a "end this conversation" then a "telling you he's dead"
-
Throughout the story line those who completed certain milestones, will hear thanks like Shaxx: your saladins wolf Going to the lighthouse in D2 if u have been flawless, ghost says, this light house is much easier to get into than the last one All kinds of little stuff u can pick up on throughout the story if ur a veteran
-
hmm, what about guardians that haven't completed all or some of the raids ? You have to assume there will be people like that and if it was you than you would be asking... "wtf I never killed Oryx" think about it o_O
-
One of the reasons why this game is "trash" and shouldn't be taken seriously. With all the things Bungie has done during the course of D2's launch, the lore I loved has been butchered and the story has so many flaws within itself. I honestly can't love this game anymore because of that. We are not children, the flaws are too much in your face its ridiculous. 😐

Lets just hope that in D3, they explain that everything in D2 was an illusion by The Traveler to test your guardian. OH WAIT! Silly me, I almost forgot! The Traveler is folklore!
