Recently came across an excellent post by Your Cat about how fast the player sprints. A great deal of questions were asked in that thread and I decided to look into them myself. I was originally intending to simply mention them in Cat's thread but with the amount of information I came up with I decided it deserved its own post. Without further ado;
The default sprint speed in D2 is 7.8 m/s (or 17.4 MPH). This is universal for all classes.
The Mobility stat has no affect on sprint speed.
Using a sprint booster (Focused Breathing, Dunemarchers, etc.) increases sprint speed to 8.3 m/s (or 18.5 MPH). Sprint boosters do not stack with themselves. (You don't go faster by using both Way of the Trapper and Stompees)
While you have a MIDA Multitool, Quickfang, or any weapon with the Lightweight attribute equipped your sprint speed is increased. By default to 8.6 m/s (or 19.2 MPH). When coupled with a sprint booster your sprint speed is increased to a whopping 9 m/s (or 20 MPH). That's fast.
UPDATE: While using the "melee supers" (Arc Staff, Fists of Havoc, Sentinel Shield) the player automatically sprints while moving forward at a speed of 9 m/s (or 20 MPH), the fastest sprint speed in the game. This can not stack with any boosters.

One major question that came up was how this all compares to the speeds in D1, so I went ahead and tested that too.
The default sprint speed in D1 is 8.3 m/s (or 18.5 MPH). This is also universal for all classes.
The Agility stat has no affect on sprint speed.
Using a sprint booster (Keen Scout, Headstrong, etc.) increases sprint speed to 8.6 m/s (or 19.2 MPH).
When MIDA Multitool is equipped (and only MIDA Multitool) sprint speed is increased to 8.9m/s (or 19.9 MPH). With a sprint booster it goes up to 9.2 m/s (or 20.5 MPH).
Something unique to D1 however is that sprint speed is reduced while a Heavy weapon is equipped. To 7.9 m/s (or 17.6 MPH) by default and when using a sprint booster to 8.3 m/s (or 18.5 MPH) [which is normal sprint speed btw]. This is not the case for Power Weapons in D2.
Also since it was mentioned I went ahead and measured Titan Skating in D1. Basic mashing skating was 9.8 m/s (or 22 MPH). The min/max optimized Titan skating is a blinding 17.5 m/s (or 39 MPH). 😉

1 ReplyHow did you measure the speed?

Titans in D1 with a shotgun and Twilight Garrison.... the mosquito from hell.

I appreciate you putting all this effort into this. The forums need more people like you

1 ReplyAny chance you could test the speed of a Hunter head bang and Warlock surfing in D1? It would be interesting to find out who was truly the fastest. My money's on the Hunter. For the Titan skating in D1 did you use Twilight?

5 Replies*sips coffee* Good stuff...funny thing about D2? Warlocks can go faster.

There's a cap on sprint speed. A class ability or armor boost and the mini-tool is as fast as you can go.

3 RepliesAnother great thread Zeltron, thanks!

1 ReplyI miss being sanic with my Titan, using Universal Remote and a FR.

2 RepliesMy D1 Sunbreaker was a speed demon. Dunemarchers with solar double kill speed boost. Jabberhakke-D solar with a kill speed boost. Kill a single add and go flying through the sky blasting enemies. I miss that...

6 RepliesHow can you possibly click speed in Destiny. Oh wait... you can't.
-
11 RepliesTitan skating... 22 mph... your test subject must not've been very good at it if that's the speed you got, or the test area was too small. Not hating, nor do I have the actual numbers myself(they vary between each player), but unless you can provide video, I can't believe that's anywhere near an accurate measurement of top speeds.

1 ReplyWhat about having a mida and mini tool combo. That's even quicker.

Uhhhhhh you're like, smart and stuff

Yeahhhh, that’s annoying! Ha! Especially since the world’s we are running through are almost twice the size they used to be in D1. In gals where you have to run, I find myself almost LEANING into the controller trying to make myself run faster. At least now I know I’m not crazy! Again, another thing nerfed for the sake of PVP balance. Sad! Also, another reason why I find it so hard to let go of MIDA. Could care less for actual shooting, but that thing with way of the trapper on too. I feel like I’m flying around.
