Taking guns away won't stop the killings. Only way to stop them is to dismantle the culture behind them. Here's what I propose:
Ban news media from broadcasting statistics about the MSs kills, etc and keep it as tightly classified as possible
Ban news media from identifying the shooter
Add a squad of around a dozen or so armed and trained officers to each public school that sit and wait in a locked area(s).

How about we don’t screw over the first amendment?
-
Your argument is demonstrably false. Your first two suggestions are a blatant violation of the first amendment. The third would be immensely expensive.
Your argument is demonstrably false. Your first two suggestions are a blatant violation of the first amendment. Just make it so police aren't allowed to release statistics about shootings nor are they allowed to release the name of the shooter. There are plenty of things we could get rid of that would be better spent on guards. For example the trash that is social security.
-
That won't solve the problem. Copycat crimes may account for some shootings, but not near all of them. There is, however, documented evidence of gun control measures effectively reducing the rates of gun violence.
-
Gun violence might go down, but violent crime would go up.

Based on what?

No. No. No. No. and no. You can't fix a problem by HIDING the problem. You fix the problem by FIXING THE PROBLEM. Our gun laws are some of the dumbest in the world. We are absolutely AWASH in them...and we have a gun lobby that is paying off and intimidating our politicians to make them ever more widely available and easier to obtain. Which means they more and more easy for career criminals and the mentally-ill to acquire. Also our mental health system is a consummate disgrace. Our streets (the homeless) and our prisons (the inmates) are basically our "mental health" system. Which means we just IGNORE these people until they behave in ways that severely disrupt society..... ...and then we warehouse them in our prisons. Then turn them back out onto the streets and let the process start all over again. Same with our drug policies.... Where we treat addiction as a moral problem rather than a medical one. The problem is that we still want to act like we are a frontier society, when the fact is that we are an URBAN one....and the fact that we are an urban society means that certain aspects of our culture have to change, and the ways in which we handle certain issues has to change.

You seem to think I'm against mental health reform. I'm not. I absolutely agree we need to put more research into mental health and we need to reform how we treat mental patients.

Gun Show loophole.

The news media stuff would be kind of pointless with social media. That might have worked 20 years ago, but now we'd hear about it even if it wasn't on CNN.
-
Not if the police don't report it to the media. It would leave people guessing and it wouldn't allow for a "scoreboard" for mass shooter enthusiasts.

Your name is ironic for this subject...
