Hey, Bungie Community.
I know… I know… “Where have YOU been?”
It’s true that this website was once exclusively my beat. That was long ago – an entire age in Internet years. These days, it’s no secret that I’m working more behind the scenes to empower people like Cozmo (and now Dylan!) to be successful on the center stage. I never stopped being aware of happens here, though. Serving the Guardians is a team effort, just like everything that happens at Bungie.
Today, I wanted to share some additional thoughts on some of our forum moderation policies. Earlier this week, it was announced that forum participation requires a player to first reach The Farm in Destiny 2 with their Guardian (preferably a Warlock loyal to Dead Orbit, but you do what feels best). We also offered up a reminder that our Code of Conduct is very much alive and well, along with the army of community volunteers (know them as “The Ninjas”) who are sworn to help us uphold it.
While the announcement may have sparked a new conversation, none of these were new ideas. The code of conduct has existed in some form since 2004 (or bust), serving a goal to set expectations for respectful behavior. Throughout the first years of Destiny, we had a similar minimum requirement that forum users must first reach the Tower after completing the first mission. (“Eyes up, Guardian.”)
As a follow up to the launch of Destiny 2, we still needed to update the required milestone, and we finally got around to doing that thing. Old ideas. New game.
Our goals have not been censorship or monetization. We seek to provide a valuable service to our community. This website is open to all players who have taken their first step into the world of Destiny, whether you use the full retail game or the free trial as your vehicle. As a Guardian, you are welcome to track your adventure, make new friends in groups, form up into teams as a clan, or just speak your mind on the forum.
We’re not taking any steps to remove negative feedback about Destiny 2. In fact, if you’ve expressed a desire to see something added to the game, it’s very likely that it’s itemized on our Development Roadmap. If it’s not, lend your voice to the #Feedback forum. All we ask is that you meet us halfway as a player.
Your community team is committed to the experience here. We can always do a better job of providing a respectable place where people can express sincere opinions about the games they play that we create. It’s true that there are forums on Bungie.net that have nothing to do with Destiny, but we believe that a player who is invested in the game we share is likelier to respect the forum (and the community) that we share. This is why the players of our games have often been deputized as Moderators – some of whom have gone on to work for the company.
This is the clubhouse that we provide for the players of our games. You are as welcome here as you are in the world we’ve created for you to explore. If neither of those things appeal to you, there are other worlds than these on the Internet. We created this one, so we’re responsible for its upkeep. If you want to join us in that mission, I’m always suggesting that we could benefit from more Mentors or Ninjas to help us serve the player or keep the peace. Set a strong example, and you just might be the next addition to the teams that tend to their own garden.
It is our hope that you have a good experience here. We maintain Bungie.net so that you can manage your hobby and make some friends that will enrich your journey. We also want to know you and learn from you.
Thank you very much for reading this, and for being here.
DeeJ, out.

47 RepliesI will gladly sacrifice my right to post here if you refund me for this piece of shit and the prepaid dlc I'm never going to play.

Put this in feedback
-
First off..... No disrespect, but where you have been is probably the last thing most people care about. If you can do anything to fix this is probably more relevant. Second..... "Guardians Meet Here" --- it's a tad insulting that it only takes a visit to the farm for Bungie to consider you a Guardian Third...... Ignore the second point above as my expectations are probably too high given this is just a "Hobby" game anyway.

Crimson days is is full of either 2 man night stalkers witch isn't as bad as how many 2 man arcstrider teams there are chucking 4!! Skip grenade's so they always almost get a free kill or at least make both of us weak enough to die to a melee Destiny 2 is no place for solos is what my conclusion is after playing from launch till now and I quit if your not running a full man team with mics you lost don't get me wrong I'm above average and hold my own but when there's 0 communication on 1 team and the other team is all on mic more then half the time you'll lose unless the team with mics have no thumbs

Really appreciate the honesty that has been shown lately guys, if something ever goes wrong I’d much rather be told the honest truth

DeeJ, your awesome and keep up the good work!

My rebuttal. 🖕🏼

1 ReplyI wonder if bungie it doing what they are doing to get out of Activision's contract, I doubt it but it would be funny

1 ReplyAs long as the studio continues to make inspired content without over thinking how this or that may affect the casual player, I will continue to play. I think the changes made to the forum were necessary and with the right intentions at heart. Destiny's first person gameplay mechanics are superior to any other game out there imo. That's what keeps me playing anyway. Even with all the problems. Player bases will fluctuate. People will come and go. Just make inspired content and don't forget where we came from and everyone will play. Not everyone will be happy but they will still play. Even if they complain while doing it.

1 ReplyDeej pass word that Crimson days cosmetics just as the dawning ones aren't what we play for. Guns, armor, these are what we want. I've heard it said by numerous Bungie staff that your "listening", prove it. Give us a real reason to grind, ornaments sparrows and shaders don't interest me and I'm probably not alone. And in YOUR words Your MOVE.....

On behalf of all the normal, sane, rational, and socially adjusted Guardians who play, Thank You Deej.

16 RepliesEdited by Takin Ajit Guys: 2/13/2018 12:48:03 PMCan you ask the dev team to rework the upvote system? Separate the dislikes and likes so it isn't abused as much. I grow tired of the raging twelve year-olds addicted to salt down voting the positive posts.

Great post. I’m still a little disappointed that this all but disbanded the long standing #Offtopic forum. People who have been on that forum for years now suddenly forced to part ways from one another.

1 ReplyOkay first things first. “Monetization” was referring to the forum rumors that people spread about Destiny requiring people to pay to comment. You just have to own the game and get to the farm. If you haven’t done that, I’m sorry but any input you have will not be helpful to this community as you will not know what you are talking about and are pretty much just here to troll. Go somewhere else and be productive, as before when it was allowed, you were just wasting everyone’s time. The thing about Eververse, technically anyone can get the items in there so I don’t see how it’s about monetization either. I haven’t spent a dime on silver yet I have items from there because I play. Don’t cry about it. Cool items, weapons, and armor all come with time. Put some in and you’ll be like me. Complaining because you don’t want to put that time is...is well...your problem. Because I did put the time in, so I should have these things. Question for Bungie: My only question to the Code of Conduct is this...can rapid fire result in a ban? Or any mods of that type? I don’t use it, I have the OG controller but someday down the line I may upgrade to a better one. I’d also like to suggest ranked play for crucible so the people who complain because they don’t have certain items and don’t want to grind for them can be happy playing in a lower Elo than the ones who put the time into getting them. They have a chance at getting them, so they can’t say it’s unfair. Everything is honestly pretty even; just people think that what the best run with will make them better...not true. They are just good because they practice a lot. No more nerfs or making things easy for the babies. Simplifying the game means people will get all there is to get out of it quicker which isn’t what you want. It makes the game less fun for vet players who actually put the time into the game. It’s like “I did all of that for nothing.” We are the people to please, we stream giving you free marketing and help build up your new customers turning them into loyal customers.

1 ReplyDeej a live event calander would be a cool thing to add so we know ahead of time when live events are going to drop.

Edited by YATM: 2/13/2018 3:25:47 PMYou should really go a step further and make feedback a separate forum. The toxicity and us vs them mentality is out of control. I think there are many fixes D2 needs to make, but if I defend one decision or share a positive opinion I am a shill. Seriously, please either get rid of the trolls or end the forum altogether.

"Hey Bungie community" So not the Destiny 2 community? "We know there are forums on Bungie.net that have nothing to do with Destiny 2" Exactly! The Bungie community has been around for (to quote you) an internet age, dare I say it but even before Destiny! Off topic & gaming is exactly that! Anything & everything is fair game in there, very seldom is critical feedback for Destiny 2 top of the agenda. What's your next move? Sensorship of the '15 minutes of fame' brigade, over on YouTube & the plunketts on Twitch, because they aren't glowing with positive praise? Further deluding themselves into thinking a 'career' is hanging on the coattails of one video game?! & now they're struggling for views to pay for Doritos. Maybe try shipping a finished product (like the old days) & less of your paying customers will find reasons to be overly critical, instead of sweeping what's left of the Bungie community under the carpet.
