My grandfather gave me his old members only jacket and I looked it up and it turns out a new one is upwards of $100. I mean it's not that expensive but it's still my most valuable piece of clothing.

I mean, brands totally play a role, and sometimes things are overpriced, but I think spending money on outerwear is pretty justifiable in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes you have to believe the hype. My Canada Goose jacket is probably the best piece of clothing I’ve ever owned. Definitely would recommend getting one to anyone who lives in a colder region. Yes, it costs a pretty penny, but the build quality is absolutely there, you literally do not feel the cold, and you just can’t find a jacket that warm that fits so well. You can’t.
