Is it really that uncommon to drive a manual car in the US? Here in England manual is pretty much the standard for most people. Having an auto first car would probably be considered quite strange.
I personally prefer driving manuals/stick shift since it's more involved and you have more control over the car. I currently drive a Vauxhall Astra 1.4 👌

Yeah, it is saddening to see the manual transmission dying off so much over here Kids here are too lazy to have to do "extra work" and instead lose (what I think) a basic life skill

These days most current cars in the US are automatic. Usually budget cars or sport cars are the only ones with manual. And even most sports cars use paddle shifters now.

Huh. That's interesting. Here automatics are much rarer and pretty much reserved for high-end or mid range cars. Almost all manuals are stick based and paddle shift is basically unheard of except in sports cars or as an extra feature on an automatic car. In the UK you have to pass your test in a manual in order to be able to drive one, if you pass in an auto you can only drive autos. I guess that's a contributing factor to why people choose manuals, since you may not always have an auto available.

I actually like that system. Too bad that would never be incorporated here.
