Blah, they change it and suddenly I'm using a shotgun instead of an smg/sidearm and a sniper instead of a scout rifle. Big deal. The only weapon worth a darn in the special slot in D1 was a fusion rifle anyway. Everything else was too situational.

I agree....but the fusion and shotty were perfect in that spot with a nice rocket or heavy machine gun....ahh dah good old days.

Here's how you fix shotguns and snipers in this game. Increase ammo reserves for both. Boost sniper rifle base damage to equal rockets without clusters. Boost sniper damage even further against unshielded targets to equal damage from clusters. Give rockets bonus damage against shields to compensate. Now you have two competitive long range options, one with aoe, one with bonus single target damage. Linear fusion rifles should be a middle option between the two. For shotguns, they need an intrinsic perk of creating orbs on multikills (like masterworks already do). They also need to have stagger on anything not killed outright - anything. Then they become a viable close range add clear option and become competitive with swords. If you masterwork it, double orbs on multikills. Grenade launchers also need much deeper ammo reserves to be competitive with fusion rifles, and they ought to be balanced for mid-range work the same way snipers and rockets are above.
