Good read. When Aztecross said he would be making a long video discussing all the problems of Destiny and strategies to fix it, I expected a well thought out and well constructed video. When I watched this, all I saw was a Christmas wish list of untested ideas so that he can go back to Destiny 1. I don’t want to go back to Destiny 1. I played that game for thousands of hours and enjoyed it, but the game was so fundamentally broken. There were so many moments of great imbalance and frustration. The PvP by year 3 was a chaotic mess and the PvE was mindless and linear (shoot a boss with hundreds of sniper rounds and repeat.) Why would I trade the broken game of Destiny 2 for a slightly “less” broken game of Destiny 1? I would rather Bungie builds off the positive changes that they made for Destiny 2 and grow from there. Doing a 180 is not the solution.

  • Yep well said. It's also the only realistic path forward.

  • Positive changes, your kidding right. Game is boring, how is that positive. If its positive why is everyone dropping off after only a month since dlc drop. The entire experience is drained of purpose and reason to play. Majority of weapons are either reskins or year one. What is positive about it. Story, graphics and gun play is not the endgame. There is none. We paid full price for an incomplete game missing the most important part of a shooter game. Incentivized loot. D1 had its issues but incentive to play was there. Whats positive about removing it.

  • There are undeniably good things in D2, just as there are bad things. All he's saying is that we want them to take some of the GOOD foundational blocks and do more of them, while we do LESS of the bad things. We all agree the current sandbox is monotonous and boring. Nobody would argue that the COLLECTIVE changes to movement speed, ability damage, ability charge rate and weapon TTK is working right now. However, just playing with these 4 variables alone without overhauling the weapon system, the class system, etc. can go a long way to improving the experience, without re-architecting the game experience. 100% agree about lack of incentives and motivation, and trust me this one is something the team 100% knows. All you have to do is look at the most basic engagement metrics with 'endgame' activities to know that people aren't motivated by the system a designed. If you're looking for a fun project, recommend reading up on the game Diablo 3. At launch, it faced many of the problems we face with D2 now, and a ton of the community called for a reversion to Diablo 2. What they ended up doing is EVOLVING D3 using the tools they built to meet the needs of the players that the original sandbox was failing to do. Now, it's regarded as a highly succesful ARPG with tons of endgame replayability

  • This is a sequel not a new game. The whole point is we should not be experiencing any of these things. They made design decisions for people who did not like the game, not for those who did, in general. I understand some like it because its easier to play. They wanted to expand to other players but alienated the hard core player. This is a ridiculous decision as casual players life expectency is short. The people who keep the game alive are alienated. You are correct on many points. Bottom line is I paid for an incomplete game for full price. I paid for a shooter game with no loot incentive. I should not have to wait and pay for more content to have a complete game. Disgusted by their behaviour, decisions and arrogance. I paid for the expansions, thats my mistake. Will not make that error again.
