• Vanilla D1 was closer to being the right formula than every other rendition of Destiny from a core gameplay standpoint, but that doesn't mean it was perfect. Most of these things are logistical issues or involve how the game was set up. People complained about the RNG, but that was legitimate until TDB when it was drastically improved - but people still kept wanting handouts. IMO, keep things as they were in Vanilla D1 and just make these improvements. Core gameplay will still be the same, there will just be some logistical and QoL improvements to make the game more accessible.

 • Basically all D1 y1 needed was infusion. If you got that level 30 helmet and you wanted to make the crucible helmet 30, then go ahead. This way max light wasn’t tied to one set of gear but it was tied to one set way of getting there 👍🏻

 • The thing is that I don't like infusion because of the way it worked out long-term pre-April update. And post-April update also made it too easy. D2's infusion is somewhere in between, but it again forces you to relive the frustrations of Pre-April update infusion where if the item you needed wouldn't drop at the right light level, you were stuck. I've been pushing for a mote-based infusion system which would allow you to increase gear light level by infusing motes of light directly into it. Its easy and it fits the lore and it removes RNG's influence from level progression. It would also allow people to reach max light without doing the raid, which is my compromise position for having elite-tier endgame rewards return a la Y1.

 • Yeah but light drops so easy now that I think D2 infusion system is fine. If anything I think light drops from too many activities now...

 • Well if that is the case, I think mote infusion solves the problem. It's a hybrid of exp-based progression and infusion, without RNG involvement. Exp gains can be tilted to make it harder to level up as you approach the light level cap, so getting "max light" isn't easy. And it allows players to progress regardless of what activity they choose to do - because in every activity other than sitting at the tower, you continue to earn exp. And it just makes sense. When you level up, you earn more light from the Traveler, which the player can choose to apply to whatever gear he wants to increase its light value and make it better. People will have multiple pieces of gear they want to level up, even if they "max out" their favorite/base set, so there is still reasons to continue grinding. And again, max light can be achieved without doing the raid, which is a good compromise position between D1Y1 and D2. IMO, its just one more factor Bungie could consider in restoring elite-tier endgame rewards to endgame content like raids.

 • I’m not a fan of using notes to earn higher light. I liked that notes could be used to level up weapons and gear, but I think max light should only drop from end game content. Otherwise why is it really there. Light meant something when it was hard to get and trials and banner were light enabled. Now it’s just a number that doesn’t matter at all. Etheric light was a better system than xp being light. You could get it from raid and prison. Still too easy imo lol

 •
I think max light should only drop from end game content.
I would tend to agree, but the counterargument to this has some legitimate points. In D1Y1, you eventually reached a point where you had to do the raid to level up, but you had progressed so far that the only way to level up was to do the raid. So it left you in a classic catch-22 situation. I think it is putting too MUCH emphasis on doing the raids to have the raids be the best source for elite-tier gear AND the only source for max-light gear. I think a good compromise to this is to simply enable players to get max light elsewhere in the game, but have the raid and nightfall be the exclusive sources for elite-tier drops like elemental primaries, high-powered endgame exotics like G-Horn and Icebreaker, etc. I just think that is a more fair balance of content and rewards.
