Actually what people are pissed about is more of industry trend, I think. If you look at the reaction to the customer-exploitation that EA and Activision have engaged in you kind of see Bungie being dragged through the mud along with it. Passions inflame because people really liked Bungie's storytelling. Their work use to be special and it's painful to watch it be converted into garbage.
I think the backlash is warranted and necessary as a corrective force in the business. People care about art and their hobbies. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to get upset about their behavior.
With regards to your comment about making a game perfect, I've seen that in other discussions. "No game is perfect" and you're absolutely right. When you look at the customer treatment coming from other devs with very flawed games (Witcher 3 is still a hugely flawed game, for example) people forgive that and actively support and praise those devs because their hearts were in the right place.
Bungie's hearts are just in making a crapton of Eververse items.
