As for everyone bringing up how microsoft needs to come back and loom over them they don't seem to understand Halo had the same issues. Marcus Lehto did a podcast relatively recently where he explained Halo 2 and 3 had horribly long crunch time development. One of which had a whole year of crunch time for the studio. Someone actually blacked out when they finally got home one night and then had to take time off to avoid anything further. Then there's the psychiatrist someone had to visit.
I don't remember ODST or Reach being said to have these issues. All in all they have been pretty poor at management. Whatever they did learn from all of that they may have lost when people where fired or leaving Bungie.
So yeah to say that Microsoft would be any better is misinformed. The only advantages that seemed to bring was playtesting in Microsoft's own lab for that. Otherwise staying a small team kept them nimble and capable of stronger communication, and those who worked there at the time keeping things on course.
They have lost quite a few people for one reason or another since, and not to mention the team size has ballooned out incredibly. Whatever strengths they had before are gone now. With other things to take their place that have been clearly inadequate.
