I guess the state is just going to follow it's own incentives, especially when people like you and me hold virtually no power over its actions. You could continue to vote every few years and try and change the color of a few Congressional seats. Maybe a few branches will change party hands. Doesn't really matter. Do you feel particularly well-represented when it comes to things like net neutrality? Where do you go to vote out Ajit Pai? So you could continue exerting lots of effort for no results within the status quo, or you could realize that perhaps something more radical would better achieve your goals.
