Why not make school more efficient so that you don't constantly have to turn to outside sources to learn?

Education is built upon the progress of what others have learned. That's why our numbering system is based off of the Arabic numbering system, or why we've utilized part of Greek Democracy, to name two right off the top of my head.

I think you missed the point.
-
And that point is?

I'm saying the structure and pace of the curriculum is utter garbage and downright lazy. You're going on about something else entirely.
-
Then contact your representative about it and bring it up as an issue. You'll get more progress done by doing that rather than telling me about it, because I don't have the level of influence that a representative has.
Why not make school more efficient so that you don't constantly have to turn to outside sources to learn?
We tried that, but conservatives don't like Common Core because kids get a better education.

Common core is an insult to the human mind. They set the bar so painfully slow and drag on the pre-college schooling for 13 goddamn years. Coloring doesn't teach you shit. Cute little art projects are a waste of time. You don't need 50+ worksheets for practice on a lesson. Pep-rallies are insanely pointless. There's so much downtime shit down the drain every single day. So much unnecessary repetition. "No Child Left Behind" go -blam!- yourself. Our education system sucks because it's so baby-shit easy. And the teachers rarely know what the -blam!- they're talking about. The only time I felt like I was learning anything was senior year, and that was because I had the freedom to pack my schedule with AP classes I thought were interesting.

Common Core sets the standards for what we learn, does it not?
Common Core sets the standards for what we learn, does it not?
Yes, it sets what topics should be taught at which grade levels. It has nothing to do with worksheets or pep rallies or how the day is scheduled.

Well, I started to run away with it at the worksheet part, but it's shameful the goals we set at each grade level. They should be far higher than what they are. The worksheets are a consequence of the slow-paced required curriculum, so Common Core should shoulder some of the blame. It leaves too much space for nonsense.

Most states set only mediocre expectations for students for nearly 10 years after the passage of the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Now, in the wake of the Common Core campaign, a majority of states have made a dramatic move forward.
And worksheets have nothing to do with Common Core. Common Core doesn't dictate how a concept is to be taught, just that it must be covered in that grade level. It's up to the teacher how to teach it to the students.

I still really think we should be on that Asian level. Maybe common core set the bar higher for students, it didn't set it high enough. Too much of our formative years are wasted.

I don't disagree that we could raise our standards higher, but to do it so high, so quickly would be a bad move.
