At first this was a response, now I made this into a post.
Just so you guys know, I am total Fanboy of Destiny 2, here is my honest opinion. These are just my initial impressions. And I am yet to try the new Weapon crafting so I might have a different opinion later.
I enjoyed Destiny 2 Campaign overall and the game as a whole is something I enjoyed.
I will honestly admit that so far, I did not enjoy Curse of Osiris as much as I hoped. I hate to admit this. The game is beautiful but feels dead and lifeless. Shooting Vex is satisfying, but with the same weapons I had before, I am kind of getting sick of using Two Primaries. So using the same weapons and completing the story was a chore. And what did we get as reward at the end? A reskinned Uriel's Gift. Even though it has different perks, it still feels like the exact same weapon. And I try using different weapons, but I always go back to using Uriels Gift on my Titan because its such a good weapon, and even though the other weapons are decent, they are not as fun to use, but when you use one weapon over and over, you kind of get sick of it. it is like eating your favorite meal every day. But this is going off tangent.
The game lacks the depth that I felt when I played Destiny 1. Please don't take this post the wrong way. I am not hating on Destiny 2 in general, but this is my short review of issues in this DLC.
So far here are Cons:
1. I was expecting more from Osiris faction. I did not get feeling that I am working towards something when I talked to Brother Vance. I did not like his voice, he sounded very Feminine, and did not really advance the story of Osiris.
What I expected: Brother Vance to start me off on some quest Chain like in House of Wolves or in Dark Below. I know that Dark Below was even shorter, but I think I actually liked it better, because after doing the story, it set you on some quest stuff around different zones.
None of that was mentioned in the game, maybe I am wrong but once I am done with story. What are my next steps. I feel like this was not clearlly shown in the game. How do I proceed with weapon crafting?
2. I also am confused. Lighthouse was much bigger in Destiny 1. Why is his public space only limited to Library. I feel like many players that never went to Lighthouse have been cheated. I think that they would have enjoyed seeing full Lighthouse in its glory.
4. Public event is not rewarding, #twotokensandblue is still a thing, and was not yet fixed. and Faction token system is boring in general but made even more boring because it gives out the same Loot from Destiny 2.
5. I expected some kind of Horde mode feature with the Vex portals, that were suppose to take you back in time, and forward into the future. I thought this was going to be like a 3 Man horde mode, like Prison of Elders or something similar to that. But this was actually part of Adventures, and overall I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
6. The Reskinned Blue Submuchine gun "PhillipsD" dropped for me over and over in Osiris DLC. I even made a post about it on Twitter. Did Bungie forget to Re-skin the Blue gear. And why does Brother Vance give out the same Legendary Items from Destiny 2? I see he is giving out a new armor set, but why is he also giving out the same gear as well. The whole token system is very slow to earn gear. And Titan set is not particularly good.
7. Also I feel like Bright engrams are dropping more often, but why is everything in the game now about Earning Bright Engrams? I feel like the whole game is about earning Exotic emotes now. This is not a fun end game guys. While in Destiny 1 I was doing Bounties and getting cool loot. In Destiny 2 I am just earning Bright Engrams. This is not part of review for DLC but the DLC simply reinforces the boring system of earning Loot Boxes. Bungie why are you doing this?
One feature which is called Infinite Forest which I was looking forward to:
I thought this would be like a Randomly generated Dungeon or something like that. But instead it is just a path you take on your adventure. And most of this can be skipped. Bungie really? With the team you have you could have given this some kind of Tower defense mode or something. I feel like all the issues in the game are compounded with this DLC.
Thoughts.
1. Public event is fun the first 5 times. Now it just feels like a chore. From the Public event it is interesting, and jumping is fun like Sonic or something similar, felt fast and fun overall. From the touted biggest Public Event or More Rewarding public event? This new feature that was advertised as more rewarding is actually opposite. I have not seen an exotic item in forever doing public events. So actually they are less rewarding than before, but maybe this was intentional? Not sure honestly. Maybe if Bungoe communicated with us better about it? But from their Blog post I did not notice that they thought that rewards were a problem before. I mean getting gear is easy in Destiny 2, but I think that most of the gear is the same, and none of it looks like anything special. Like in Destiny 1, the exotics felt exotic. But once again I am going off tangent. The beautiful scenery is nice, but eventually I went back to Nessus.
2. After building up Osiris as greatest Warlock ever. And showing cutscene of him shooting Vex and popping his Solar Super. I was dissapointed with his short exchange with Ikora at the end. It kind of just felt Awkward. He did not enlighten us about Nature of of the Vex. And what exactly were the Vex trying to accomplish? And how is that different than what they are already doing. So Number 1 the story did not make sense at all. Why was what Vex were doing this time different than before? They are always coming in through portals. That was NEVER explained. I feel like this expansion is just a bad time in Destiny 2 and I feel like Bungie seems like they are trying but they are not focused. Something is missing from this expansion. I actually fell asleep a few times while doing the story. That is not a good sign of things to come.
I actually honestly enjoy doing Public events more on Nessus. I guess this DLC is not for me.
But this DLC. Well its pretty disappointing. And if you don't already own the expansion pass. I would say don't buy it.
