Incoming Developer Commentary about Destiny.

Hey, there. Tomorrow, we had planned to conduct the final stream prior to the launch of “Curse of Osiris” to show off some of the weapons and armor the expansion includes. Instead, we are investing all our efforts into delivering some higher priority information about Destiny 2. You’ll hear from studio leadership about their assessment of Destiny all up, they’ll talk about our goals for the game going forward, and you’ll also learn about how we’re reacting to your feedback with some game updates that will arrive in the next few weeks. That will appear on the Bungie Blog on Wednesday. Thank you, DeeJ

  • Play another game until some of the issues of Destiny 2 are resolved. There is no sense allowing yourself to become frustrated or angry over a video game. So many other thoughtful, entertaining, innovative games are available to play.

    • Well.... After I bought the game and season pass because of the good experience I had with D1 as a later adopter, I do sure hope you will make something significant to bring me back to D2 and not just band-aid patches... I feel disappointed and gutted that I don't have the heart to play it anymore after barely one month of playing it...

    • So, I haven't played for a while but. . . I am VERY interested in what the plans are for Destiny as a franchise and this update will determine whether or not I will play the game again or just return it to the store. The anticipation is palpable.

    • Biggest gripes: Terrible Terrible Good lawd is it terrible RNG. No I don't need 'It Stared Back' in every flavor. If I get another copy of that freakin' sword I'm uninstalling. PvP Matchmaking is absolute garbage, matching based off connection instead of an actual rating system. Makes trials sooo painful. Shaders as an economy item was a really dumb choice. If you're making us share an inventory across three guardians, we need more space and MUCH better sorting options. PLEASE. When I sort by newest, KEEP IT SORTED THAT WAY. Every time you go back it defaults to a different sorting.

    • If a moderator or community member can answer this one I would be greatly appreciated as well. What is the Bungie Blog? Is this a reference to the news page of the site? Or is this a reference to a streamed activity that happens at a normal time. If it's the latter of the two, what time? I have been lurking through the vitriol of this forum for weeks looking for an event like this to figure out what happened with Destiny. I'm very interested to see what the future holds for this once loved title.

      • We are all actually rooting for you Deej, we all love this game and want it to be better - otherwise we all would have left already. Despite all the "do this or I'm gone" type comments, your fans are extremely loyal, and wouldn't be saying that unless they really wanted to see changes - otherwise they just would have left already. That said, some great feedback here. Have you considered breaking out PVP into a seperate game altogether? Like a Destiny Overwatch? Then you could actually make both of these games great experiences for the right markets - right now, too many folks feel forced to do things to progress. Make PVP it's own thing and make it awesome! Right now it's way too compromised - the entire game is way too compromised as a result of being too many things to too many people. Also, for PVE, make every single story adventure into a playable strike. This is simpler than it sounds - make the stories "heroic" and allow matchmaking with three guardians. That would add en entire new dimension to your game with very little effort. Add in strike specific loot and you will have a lot of happy gamers. Thanks for listening Deej,

Lets be honest d2 is a great game for a first time player. For the rest of us the problem is you created d1 a game we loved to hate. Then you took all the best things about d1 and scraped them from d2 and left us wondering why with no response.

Just please let us know if this is going to move towards more RPG (aka Diablo 3) or pure FPS (CoD). I feel like the community is asking for Destiny to be a FPS Diablo 3 but Bungie wants it to be CoD. That's fine, just tell us so that we can make a decision on if we want to invest in Destiny. Also, please just separate PvP and PvE. Make PvP static weapons that everyone uses. Make Iron Banner and Trials all weapons so people have a chance to use their weapons in Iron Banner. This gives us a reason to grind for better weapons. Ranked PvE in a horde mode would be greatly appreciated: also a reason to grind. Get better weapons, to play in horde mode, to go up the ranks. This gives pure PvE players a reason to keep playing. Add points to the mode to ensure people play with different strategies for more points. So PvP players will have their reason to grind (Iron Banner and Trials) for better weapons, while allowing the casuals to play (regular PvP) with static weapons. PvE players will have Raids and Horde mode to grind for better weapons to move up the ranks. Bungie, you have a decent game that could become great. Look at Diablo 3 and emulate (to a point). Give us armor set perks. Hand crafted exotics that are better than other weapons. Random rolls on legendary weapons and strike specific loot. Most importantly, give us an actual procedurally generated area.

Along with the usuals suspects, I really think Subclasses need more depth and variety to them. Subclasses and space magic plus guns and swords is what makes this game special to me, but its extremely limited. Especially Dawnblade, it feels so gutted and useless. I miss having Subclasses that were somewhat unique from each other. I mained sunsinger but always felt it need a bit more team buff focus rather than self res. Very disapointed that it was retconed. Dawnbladefeedback PS: exotics need to be powerful

              • I’m gonna add a +1 to the request of BULLETS GOING WHERE WE POINT OUR F$&@ING GUNS!!! Both in-air and on the ground. If someone has the skill to track some scrub’s head while flying through the air doing a triple backflip bouncing off of three walls, then let them be rewarded in doing so. As it is, people who CAN do those things are rolling the dice as to whether or not their rounds are actually going to connect, and that is NOT acceptable in a PVP shooter, competitive or not. Considering PVP will be inherently competitive to SOME degree, space magic and random guns/rolls or not. If someone outplayed me, but their rounds didn’t connect, and I happened to capitalize on that and shoot them while they had to backtrack since their bullets didn’t roll the RNG path to hit me, did I really win? Or did the game decide that I won?

              • Hey Gang, Just wanted to say that I think you guys are doing a great job, and as with any electronic media this will get better over time as it is tweaked. Players in D1 complained about having to grind for a God Roll weapon, so you leveled the playing field. Players in D1 complained about subclasses being too powerful, so you leveled the playing field there as well. There are a lot of new mechanics that people won't be nuts about because it's not what they remember, but a lot of these people complained about the old system as well. You just keep doing what you're doing, and the handful of positive players will continue to support you. I'm not sure when people decided that you had the option to send a video game developer your list of demands (I want and Oompa Loompa NOW daddy!), but whatever helps people get it off their chest so they aren't traumatized for the rest of their lives for the sake of progress. Personally, I think we would have all been burnt out on D1 after a couple months if we knew how to grind it then like we do now, and we really have no one other than ourselves to blame for taking shortcuts. I took a few myself, but I still enjoy playing every week, and helping people complete the activities they need help with. I'm excited to see what changes are coming, D2 is a living experience and I know that it will grow and evolve over time. The short version: A little positivity to partially offsite the salt that gets thrown around. You've done a fine job, and I'll be itching to fire up the game next week and get started on new content. You do you Bungie, and thanks for the time and hard work you've put into this game!

                • A lot of these replies are just whiny complaints that just never going to be changed because they are stupid. Like changing weapons from one category to another, changing cool down speeds, bitching about perk trees, or people thinking its too rewarding? That's just stupid. The only reason it may feel to rewarding to some people is the lack of random weapon rolls. Bungie was so worried about people complaining, and having to constantly change OP weapons and gear, that they went 100% bitch mode and made every single item generic as humanly possible. Half the exotic armor pieces have perks barely comparable to D1 legendary gear. The weapons aren't quite as bad, but the amount of completely useless exotic weapons dwarfs D1. Example...Fighting lion? Cool idea, looks good, and then you use it. It's bad when the best weapons in the game are all legendary minus a D1 exotic (mida clearly). The best way to fix this game is to bring back the imagination. People want D2 to be like "breaking bad" or "orange is the new black". Something interesting and exciting, but right now its "win Ben stein's money" or "knight rider" without the Hoff in it. Bring back the Hoff...

                  • The problem with the game is super obvious the game is too rewarding compared to the amount of loot obtainable. The problem doesn't come to 4v4 PvP or even a lack of content. The problem is giving the content an incentive. In vanilla destiny player spent countless hours shooting into a blank cave because that is what rewarded them. In destiny 2 there is plenty of ways to acquire that loot but not enough of it. The issue bungie face now is all the loot has been obtained. If the issue was confronted before the release it would have been as simple as decreasing drop rates. They could do that now and the problem wouldn't go away because they would be decreasing the drops off nothing because there isn't anything to acquire. They need butt loads of new weapons and armour. Depending on the number of items released determines that drop rate to keep an average player chasing gear for at least three months until the next expansion. They need raid specific cosmetics or emotes to make the raid worth while and different weapons and armour for the prestige. PvP needs ranked and strikes need strike specific loot and scoring. The game's grind disappeared from taken king onwards and will never go back to the ways of year one when the grind had an incentive (increasing your overall power). I love this game and want to see it succeed, but so far I have no reason to spend 3000hrs playing because I have the gear and power I need. People have been complaining about tokens but if you imagine tokens are XP it's basically the same systems as in destiny 1 this just makes NPC's have a purpose besides all being postmasters.

                      • No matter how Bungie "fixes" D2, this toxic community will forever be exposed for what it is. Toxic. Bungie clearly isn't the only one with communication issues! It's obvious they've handled the release of D2 poorly thus far, there's just NO excuse for how pessimistic & vile the playerbase has shown to be... We've witnessed EA change course with BF2 over the controversy with microtransactions, Ubisoft dropping yearly AC releases in favor of better quality, Activision and Call of Duty... okay maybe CoD isn't a good example of changing for the better (even if WW2 setting is new again) but you see the pattern here! Companies DO listen to feedback eventually, or right away if it's delivered EFFECTIVELY. Man up. Voice your valid concerns like an educated functioning member of society. Move on. And hope for a response/ change. This is how the world mostly works. Bungie is handling this game like an ongoing consistently evolving universe as it always intended, so let's keep the communication open and productive to help facilitate the changes we want!! OR we can continue to bash, belittle, and resentfully begrudge our favourite franchise only for the developer to turn it around thru eventual updates and leave those who created hate forums and desperate discussions to look like crazy maryters who sacrificed their own self dignity and respect for a "better" game...get over yourselves. We're better than this. Or maybe we're no better than the Bungie we so desperately love to hate.
