Disclaimer, this thread was taken directly from RiotSpreeRaG3. I edited it and removed his interjections, and am making my own replies TO the ideas that Bungie presented as for why they are terrible for the game in many ways. Crucible Radio Ep. 126: https://t.co/YkjfcT4kOo - purposely reduced our access to high powered weapons to make the Crucible and the whole game better - moving secondaries to the power slot makes those moments more "potent" So, removing our access to FUN weapons was supposed to make the game more fun, by increasing the amount of FUN we had when we finally got to use them...? This is not how you design a game and make it enjoyable. Limiting use of certain aspects can make a game more enjoyable, if those aspects aren't a known core feature of the game. For the sake of Crucible, a weapon redesign of these weapons was all people needed to avoid the "constant one hit kills" but no, we still have them now as Power ammo spawns so frequently anyway. It's just more controlled and easily shut down. - nerfing of cooldowns supposed to increase potency of the moments when you get to use them Once again, reducing our frequency also reduces the FUN that we can have. It doesn't allow us to use our abilities in moments where we need them. Instead, we have to hold them in case of emergency or if we get overwhelmed. This takes away from the "potency" and utility. It makes it feel like ability usage is only for strenuous situations, and that isn't fun. - slowing down TTK helps us decide what we should do at that moment So in other words, lowering the skill gap on nearly all weapons and making the game easier for casuals who likely pick up the game and don't bother learning to actually excel at it. - wanted to make PvP more exciting to watch on Twitch - team shooting doesn't put stress on us to land shots That was a failure. Bring back the movement speed and the faster TTK. Having to watch someone make split second decisions is always more tense and exhilarating. You can't have the game REMOVING player stress in what is supposed to be a high speed action game. Team shooting isn't fun to watch, and being able to land your shots is what separates a good player from a bad one. - random to fixed rolls: random rolls too difficult to talk about with friends, fixed rolls better for casuals - players get items quickly and easily on purpose: for casuals and to attract new players to the game - random rolls too complicated to balance in PvP, goal to make fewer guns but spend more time on them and make them have their own identity/role Talking about random rolls with friends gave the community something to do other than complain. Casuals could come on and find out why a weapon wasn't working for them and that added depth and complexity to their game, giving reason to keep playing. Getting items quickly and easily doesn't matter if the items you're obtaining are duplicates though, and casuals don't have the time to grind for specific items, so this system doesn't help old players or new ones. Lastly, if random rolls are a problem in PvP, then introduce a new system for PvP. Otherwise, do what the first game did, and don't allow certain perks on certain weapons. No one wants believes in PERFECT balance. I've broken down in depth a way to balance this game's weapons as best as reasonably possible and sent it to a dev. His thoughts I'll never know. However, it stands to reason that the game would benefit greatly from it and ALL weapons would be closer with their times to kill and very few needed to be nerfed at all. - subclass set paths easier for us!!! "advanced players" pair their subclass with Exotics (= "depth") - "the depth is still there" The depth is not still there. The majority of exotics don't work with specific Clusters. Celestial only affects Sharpshooter positively. Orpheus only works on Trapper effectively, assuming your clusters are both fully leveled. Sacred Dawn has no reason to be run with Flame, etc. - high caliber rounds flinch greatly multiplied if you/your opponent is moving and is also scaled by weapon damage So in other words, it encourages the Peekaboo playstyle that D2 is known for. This game was not meant to be a cover based shooter. The only thing increasing the flinch should be damage output. - every weapon has a degree of hcr (affecting both outgoing and incoming flinch) This needs to be removed. HCRs were a huge complaint in the first game throughout all of Rise of Iron and much of Taken King. We didn't want them on ALL weapons, we wanted them on LESS weapons.

  • In PVE we want to be more powerful against AI enemies. It simple we have powerful weapons and tons of ammo per mag. Bungie just need to dump tons of AI...we will be happy to blow them out..FUN...! in PVP we cannot be more powerful against our opponents. This two type of enemies require different setup. Make weapon/gear/ability setup based on PVP will destroy PVE enjoyment. I buy this game for PVE...not PVP. PVP is just salad...not main entree. Love to have powerful weapons..just to trolling PE in patrol after work... I don't want to play stressful PVP or Raid after work....it just for weekend.

      • I'm giving Bungie a little leeway here. They purposely pulled in the reins on their first new release, with a new balancing system. This is common. We all know Bungie is notoriously short handed as well. Now they have feedback and a new season, and a DLC coming out. They have time to give us our space magic back, apply some of the D1 ROI changes that were not done in D2 yet, and a few other things. It's a fixable dumpster fire, unlike the Cleveland Browns.

        • What this clearly shows is what many here have repeatedly denied - this game was built around PvP balance. They can put in as many missions or side quests they want, but since great weapons aren’t allowed there will be no reason to do them. They will be ignored, as they largely are now. That new public event on Mercury? Within two weeks it will be empty as Court of Oryx. Once people got a max bond from the CoO they stopped going. This public event awards two tokens AND Bungie will throttle farming there. There won’t be any point to being there if 95% of your XP is taken away. PvE is a side note. Only way something is allowed to exist is if it does not upset PvP play.

          • He's a nice guy, but he acts in ways that make me believe that he doesn't understand game design, or doesn't care. He seems hellbent on turning Destiny into the next e-sport. But doesn't understand that--as long as pve and pvp share the same gear system---doing so will destroy the RPG parts of the game. But they guy is who he is. The real problem is in the executive suite. He's being poorly led, and [i]allowed [/i] to do this. It's not working after four years of polarizing efforts, and it never is going to work at this rate. Because not only are pve players unhappy, many pvp players aren't happy either. Right now the solo queue experience in Iron Banner is almost poisonous, it's so bad. He's created a game that's fun to play IF you're playing Trials and everyone has a dedicated Fireteam and talking on headphones. But that's not how the average person plays this game.

            • Secondary weapons from D1 were too powerful, and made the game not fun, playing against them. Sure, its fun when you get to trounce the enemy, but it isn't fun the other way around. At least now, the satisfaction of foiling a heavy ammo player is way more satisfying, and you don't have to mostly die to one hit kill weapons. Fun is so subjective. Some people love to spam out their abilities, and get rewarded every 1/5 because they got lucky that time. Some people like to be rewarded for using their abilities at the perfect time. It may not be as fun, but its most likely better balanced. Increasing TTK doesn't decrease the skill gap. Getting insta-gibbed isn't exactly high skill, is it? Reacting to damage and getting away alive is high skill. Teamshooting is great for people who don't feel like they can participate in Trials, because individually the know they are not top a tier player. It just makes the game more accessible, and diverse in skill level. Random Rolls really only rewards players who spend exorbitant amounts of time in game. One of the arguments for them is that getting god rolls is more exciting and 'potent'. I guess its the opposite take of your stance on power ammo? Most exotics have always paired with certain subclasses. There was literally no change, and this has always been as much depth as there ever was in game. Asking for more depth is fine, but nothing has changed. HCR is an abbreviation of Flinch. The difference between normal flinch and extra from HCR is very negligable, its basically only a PvE perk.

                        So much effort poured into meaningless stuff... TTK, weapon balance, item design, map design, game mode design... for what? THERE IS NO MATCHMAKING ALGORITHM NOR DEDICATED SERVERS. E-sport my ASS. Gods, the videogame industry is nuts nowadays.

                          TTK isn’t slowed the fùćk down giving you “time to think” when 3-4 peeps are shooting you at once and you have zero viable strategy to fight them cause you’re solo against a clan cause all yours ditched a while ago, all weapons have been nerfed to shït so you might as well just stop shooting and take the death, and your super isn’t up for another 3 minutes. 🤬😡 Yes, I’m bitter. 😤

                            The higher TTK thing makes zero sense to me. More time to react to what? The TTK is so high that there is zero incentive to try and counter anything. The incentive is to literally not move and sit near a teammate. If you and a teammate end up being able to shoot a guy they die so fast they can't counter anything anyway so what is the point of the higher TTK. It literally causes the opposite scenario. You never have time to react unless you prepare before the engagement takes place. The logic is completely backwards I dont get it lol.

Nova bomb is usually a one person kill unless, of course, I kill the door frame first. Stormtrance can get two and sometimes three, but it is rare and is almost always accompanied by my own death in the process. Solar thingy magiggy is about the same. So what was that again about "increas(ing) potency of the moments when (I) get to use them"? Yeah, that didn't work out quite that way...

                            • 1st, I have absolutely nothing against the guy as a person. But I just realized how far he is from the reality of this game, of what people like, of what a game need to have success for players and to be streamed and watched. He is just completely out of touch and it's sad. Considering we know there was internal disagreement about many decisions that were taken for D2, it means he ended up either not listening to them or consider the other parties were wrong. That is also sad. I just hope the company realize those choices were just wrong and other people from the company need to be listened to (like the live team).

                              • Reducing TTK does Not show skill OP. Longer TTK is better in every way and more fun and engaging. This is a game, Skill is not a factor, Fun is a factor. People that are worried about Skill in a video game need to do better in real life.
