Someone asked me why D1 PvP is better than D2 PvP: Here's what I replied with

"Faster times to kill meant you could chain insane plays. Better weapon layouts; quick scoping, shot gunning, etc... It was more common, but very counterable. RANDOM WEAPON ROLLS; everyone could have the same gun, but rolls played more importance. A shitty gun could shine with good rolls, and vice versa. It also added a grinding component to PvP that made finishing games more rewarding. Not just 4v4. 4v4 is really competitive. Don't get me wrong, I loved sweaty trials, but I loved going into a 6v6 and just going wild. 2v2 was fun as well. You and a buddy vs another duo. Different games modes and private matches; now we have limited modes with no private matches. Exotics; not as strong as when the game launched, but very good. They felt strong. You had to think hard about which gun was gonna be equipped. Same with armor. There was so much variety. Sub classes; there was A LOT more variety. I'd change my perks from game to game, always testing new paths out. Now they're plain and stale. No diversity. That's just a few points." Edit: Thanks for the feedback. Sadly, it doesn't matter how many posts are made. Bungie will continue "fixing" their game as they see fit. Even Destiny YouTube channels are changing games. This is because D2 is boring for them AND D2 is boring for the audience. We gave Bungie our freedom (fun) in exchange for security (balance).

  • It's bad because you crucible players cried for 3 years about everything that killed you. 1. Vex mythoclast 2. Ice breaker 3. Firebolts 4. Acrbolts 5. Every damn super 6. Shotguns 7. Snipers 8. Fusions 9. Even the damn nlb got a nerf All because you people can't accept when you were outplayed. Simple. You made your bed now we all have to lie in it.

RANDOM WEAPON ROLLS...
No. Having your success determined by random luck was bad game design. Which is why Bungie fixed it.
Different games modes and private matches...
We have nearly all of those game modes. 99.999% of the player base never played a private match, why make it priority?
Exotics; not as strong as when the game launched, but very good. They felt strong. You had to think hard about which gun was gonna be equipped. Same with armor. There was so much variety.
You must have not played D1. Only one or two exotics were viable at any given time. First there was Mythoclast, then Suros, then Thorn, etc... Never any variety. That is why they had to constantly patch them.
Sub classes; there was A LOT more variety. I'd change my perks from game to game, always testing new paths out. Now they're plain and stale. At least with perk trees one has to alter you entire play style. One doesn't play the Attunement of Chaos like the Attunement of Hunger, for example. That is variety.

I'm pretty sure that the crucible appealed to more hard core players than causal players for d1 and the other way around for d2

          • The reality (just go play it) is that D1 crucible is not as good as D2. Its a cheese fest. Fast ttk makes no sense when using weapons that take 2 shots to kill a fully shielded guardian. Even CoD, the speed kill king, has a slower ttk.

              • Idk, D1 played like an arcade but they were in denial of that fact and tried to make it competetive. Point is, Destiny will never be a true competitive shooter. If they wanted that then the first thing they should've brought to D2 was dedicated servers, not slower gun play.

                • So basically it was a hardcore version of this PVP, so it catered to the fast-twitch gameplay that ADHD kids so greatly desire, as well as people's desire to be a lone wolf rather than actually work as a team or use actual tactics. I think this game is right to reward those who have patience and the ability to work together. Just sucks when you get thrown on a team and everyone runs off in different directions like -blam!-ing morons. Then you inevitably have to follow one of the morons or become a lone wolf yourself... and it generally doesnt end well.

Here is the biggest problem with D2 PvP and why many top tier players are turned off. They nerfed the skill ceiling and buffed the skill floor. They have been doing this since right after D1 HoW. Why majority of players say D1 HoW was the best era for PvP. The consistent nerfs from then to now leaves us with D2. Meaning: gun skill, fast reaction times, etc. are not as much of a factor. Teamwork is more of a factor. However, individual skill is not. Killing the fun out of it. And the "how did he do that, wow" factor. F/E in D1 trials. If it was a 1 v 3. Me against 3 say 1.0 kd kids. I would have a good chance of winning. In D2 trials. If it was a 1 v 3 against average players I would loose every time (without heavy/super). They gave the lower skill tier kids a better chance to survive if they had good teamwork. That's good and all, but hasn't change anything but killed the fun factor. My kd in D2 is the same as D1. My trials team, even with a carry, still destroys most teams. It's just not as much fun anymore. There is rarely a kill where I think "wow that dude/dudes got out played." This was the first trials weekend I didn't even play in a long time. Since I quit D1 during the sticky meta. This is just an observation from a top 1% D1 crucible vet

                    • I can see why, for some, D1 PVP was "better", but a lot of your points don't align with reality.

Random weapons rolls makes the game unbalanced so I vote no. 6v6 was lag city every other game. Destiny 2 can barely handle 4v4 lol.

                      • Your not wrong. Destiny 1 is a better PvP experience. Give me a PvP that promotes individual skill over a campy team shooting crapfest that D2 is any day. God I actually miss that people use to run around by themselves, I actually miss losing 1v1s. And now it's just team shoot, hold hands to a different part of the map, continue team shooting. Sucks.

                      • I actually had fun with Crucible in D1, in D2 it feels like a total chore. I remember when heavy ammo dropped once, maybe twice a match, now every single match I play it's just the entire team rotates between the heavy ammo drops every minute and a half and if you're lucky to not get killed by a hunter with a sword or anyone with rockets, they'll kill you with Better Devils. It's legitimately the exact same scenario in every single match since everyone uses crutch hand cannons that kill in 3 hits from anywhere regardless of distance. There used to be variety to the encounters and gameplay, but now since everyone's guns do exactly the same thing and every single subclass got dumbed down into the exact same thing, there's zero variety in a game that seems to have pushed the PvE element to the back burner in favor of PvP, but a game studio who revolutionized console shooters can't even seem to figure out why the game they put out 3 years ago did so well with it.

                        • I really miss having multiple supers during a crucible match. Now only having one super, and often getting it in the last 30 seconds of a match, has made PvP incredibly stale in my books.

                        • “Shotguns are no fun get rid of them” “Sniper lanes are no fun too, I shouldn’t get killed by someone I can’t float above or shoulder charge” “Auto rifles are too powerful my sweet battle rifle has no chance” “Thorn is lame I WORK for my kills not like you unskilled wankers” “Vex is OP” “Hunter is OP” “Blink strike is OP” “Blade dancer is OP” “Shoulder charge is OP” “Lightning mage is OP” The point of this game is to be legend, be over powered. Stupid -blam!-ing whiners in here who think it’s some contest of skill RUINED pvp and pve with their cries for nerfs
