For real though, why did PvP downgrade?

If you're enjoying Destiny 2 PvP, that's completely fine. I'm just curious as to why there is no game mode choice, no Rumble or Rift, and no private matches? 6v6 being better than 4v4 is up for debate. I'm focused on stuff that was in Destiny 1 but never showed up here :/

  • d2 is making me hate 4v4 so tired of getting into a 1v1 (shocker right) then they run and hide behind their teammates

  • Because Crucibabies, and Bungie's idiotic focus on PvP balance, when most people don't play it.

4v4 is better than 6v6. Though, 6v6 as D2's answer to a BTB style setting would be completely fine. Why they took out Rift and Rumble baffles me, and why don't we have Capture the Flag, or an Oddball style gametype after 3 years? They could use the settings for Rift for both, with some minor tweaks. Private matches are coming 'early 2018' but why we didn't have them at launch doesn't make sense. Still waiting for actual ranked/unranked Crucible too, like wtf.

        • Now this is constructive criticism. Bungie please respond. To help with lag has been proven to be an unexceptable response.

          • Glassware half full approach bro.... Your vault isn't getting full anymore, as all the weapons are shit and aren't worth collecting, plus no rolls means you only need 1 of each. Faster loading times as you only need 7 more people, and seeing as most people have left, imagine getting 12 together?? Playing the same shitt ass maps and game modes over and over allows you to get to know the maps better! Having people leave constantly because it's so shit can be in your favour, if it's the other team. A challenge if it's your team. Pretend that the constant lag is prestige mode, and being shot round corners, and through walls is the opponents using a special gun lol
I'm not sounding very convincing am I?
My theory is, Bungie simplified everything in this game, in order to reduce the learning curve for new players. Now that they have those players, they will gradually ramp things up, and the final product will be more like D1. I think the biggest problem is they over simplified it, which made it somewhat boring, and actually pushed some people away. I'm still playing, and I will stay with it until I've played the expansions I paid for, but if they don't spool up the addictive mechanisms soon, I won't play past spring. I actually enjoy 4v4, but I miss having a choice.

                • I understand condensing all gamemodes into 1 playlist as a way to actually get people to play modes (lul salvage) as well as increasing matchmaking speed. There are many games that have a form of this but after every match there needs to be a vote for the next map/mode to improve the current system. No reason to not have rumble even if they keep it at 4 players in the match Rift might be tough to implement at 4v4 Lul private matches. People say they want them but when we actually had them nobody used them because they had no custom options, forge, or matchmaking. Honestly private matches as implemented in D1 would be a complete waste of time to add.

They thought these changes would make the game easier to manage and balance. Probably true but they arguably took out the magic/fun out the game in the process Destiny 2 just feels so shallow

Maybe to try to sync up with d2 lore perhaps. It's highly likely that a great deal of the equipment shaxx used in the objective modes was destroyed in the tower assault. For the locations, I believe the Red Legion/Vex/Fallen are occupying the areas where most of the old pvp maps were located. Perhaps Shaxx felt the cabal presense in those areas were too dangerous to train in.

                      • They redesigned the crucible and now it feels like an alpha test where they test the sandbox before developing the modes further. Competitive works well as a game mode but lacks an incentive - needs an Overwatch style ranking system. The casual modes don't really work for 4v4 and need rethinking.

                      • the majority of changes to the core game, were in the name of balance in crucible. many of the core changes in crucible, were an attempt to minimize lag, due to their absolutely horrible, antiquated, garbage P2P system.

                      • What else are they going to out in dlcs? They had to take heroic strikes so they can sell you back to you. They're probably going to do the same with crucible.

Because, instead of investing in dedicated servers, they decided to just cut it to 4v4 to help with the lag problem they had in D1. Basically, instead of spending money, they just made it worse and they don't really care either. Now shut up and buy their DLC will you!! ;-)

                          • Because the team that made this game wanted to see just how many concepts they could sell out to and throw them all together into one hell of an unholy matrimony of a disappointing sequel That's why PvP downgraded

                            • The main reason is a rushed release for private matches. They probably thought it was a good to combine them to lead to quick search times. Rift is probably either couldn’t get it in the game in time or due to a low player count playing or all the complaints.

                            • Rumble is not a good idea with the longish kill times of D2. The game is balanced towards team work in PvP, at least more than it was in D1. I think in order to make Rumble possible, there needs to be reduced cooldowns and kill times across the board. The same explanation goes for 6v6 I think. I think 6v6 would be far too oppressive with teamfire, even more so than 4v1 is already.

                              • 544,000 people played on a Saturday, I'll round up, if half were playing pve, then that leaves 300,000 between 3 systems. So 100,000 divided by 5 ? Game modes leaves you with 20,000 world wide think of the lag then. Their trying to reduce lag, and failing. Maybe?

                              • There are two reasons and two reason only. One is the crappy P2P network topology and two is the pathetic excuse of a matchmaking platform. One - P2P was never a good idea. Introduces too much lag. Discloses the IP of EVERY player you face. Start to trap them, you will be amazed the locations of people you face. More people cheating than ever. Significantly reduced Bungie's overhead - Thanks Dicks! Two - Start capturing the IP's of people you play QuickPlay with. I'm constantly matched with people on the opposite side of the globe. International matchmaking has zero place in a P2P topology. Hit registration rates should be identical for each person you face in crucible. Thanks to the distance in locations it can take three headshots for one guy and 4 or 5 for the same thanks to the lag in hit registration. It's total crap and we as customers got ripped off!

                              • People complained about it in destiny 1, so bungie changed it. Some like it more and some dislike it more than destiny 1’s pvp.
