Not really. Most people care more about winning the argument than actually trying to get someone to empathise with their point of view or help them understand a subject.
Thus pretty much every internet discussion turns into a dick-measuring contest where both sides are just looking for the best "gotcha!" moment where no one really learns anything. It's more about affirming your own beliefs by proving someone else wrong than trying to empathise with or educate someone.
