It has no business in a $60 game in the 1st place. They could, if they wish, put everything that’s in Eververse in the game’s normal loot pools.
It’s nothing more than panhandling, begging for more money for nothing beneficial to the player, period.

You can't deny it is a very effective method of post-launch monetization though, which is what it is intended for.

Any money they make off of micro transactions goes into development allowing them to produce more content for everyone. As long as they keep them from becoming pay to win you can only benefit from other people spending money to support the development at no charge to you. A great example of all of this is rocket league where the development team is constantly releasing free content to all of its players and organizing tournaments for the competitive scene all because of people buying keys to open cosmetic loot. In my opinion I would much rather bungie be able to have better funding to create better and potentially free content for users from purely cosmetic items that you can get for free from grinding. Tl;dr let bungie use other people's money they chose to spend to give everyone more content.
-
I would accept this if it weren't for the fact that this game has made more money than any of us will ever see in 3 lifetimes. They don't need more money !!! It's pure and simple greed. You can't tell me for a second that this isn't the case
-
The money made from sales has to not only pay for the development of the game as well as employees that work at bungie and bungies own expenses. Even after all of that it doesn't change the fact that the micro transactions are all purely cosmetic and you don't have to spend a single dime unless you want to. Some people who don't play all the time but really want a cool ship and have some extra money might decide that they want to spend it and hope they get a ship. Amazingly that person getting a ship has nothing to do with them potentially being stronger than you. It's crazy to think that people can choose to pay extra money for something they feel is worth it. It's also crazy to think that some people might feel their money is better spent elsewhere so they do not spend it there. Now obviously the most insane part is that no matter which person you are you end up with the exact same game and can get the exact same items. I really have a hard time seeing what your point of "the game made so much money it's a disgrace that they left in the option for me to pay more money to get cosmetic items faster that have nothing to do with my experience with the gameplay how dare they give me the option to decide what my finances should go towards" D2 is nowhere near being a perfect game, there are many things I would like to see added/changed myself. If you really feel like the marketplace is a way to steal your money, don't give them any. It's that simple, obviously you value your money differently than other people, that doesn't make them or you wrong.
-
So, you mean to tell me that if nobody pays for these microtransactions, then there’d be no more content. Even if they buy the game, and all the DLC.
-
No there will still be additional content as far as dlc goes because it makes them more money and they have already been announced. What I am saying is that the dev team getting any bonus money can do nothing but help every player since the more money they have the better content they can release. I am personally fine with any cosmetic micro transactions because they do not give anyone an unfair advantage and I am fine with giving extra money to support games that I personally enjoy. If you personally don't believe they will put the money back into the game, then you can choose not to purchase any of them and there are no consequences. As of now there is no content in the game that is exclusively behind a paywall so I see no reason to complain. Of course it would be nice to have special drops from strikes like in D1 but that has nothing to do with their microtransactions.
-
Destiny 2 can sell 10M more copies and it won’t add any additional content, so I don’t know how you can be so sure MTs will. If it’s for additional content, then what’s the point of a season pass? Also, your comment about MTs being cosmetic and, therefore, harmless is false. Destiny is a game about customization. About getting loot. To have loot available in a cash shop completely undermines the point of lplaying games. It doesn’t matter if it’s “optional” it doesn’t matter if it’s cosmetic. To have something and say “hey, you can just buy this, you don’t have to play to get it” contradicts the purpose of videogames in its entirety.
-
I don't see where you think they won't add any additional content. No matter what they will just like they did before and as always the more money they have to put into the development cycle the better the content will be when it comes out. The more money coming in could mean faster bug fixes or optimizations or maybe they can add on to their expansions more to make a better final product. As for them defeating the purpose of the game being to "get loot" it doesn't hurt that at all. The point of the game is to shoot things in the face and enjoy doing that. To help that they add guns abilities and armor to try to make you feel more powerful doing that which in turn should make it more fun. I really don't see how someone spending $1000 dollars and getting every shader, ship, sparrow, and ornament would ruin my fun of shooting and punching things in the face. If you feel like grinding experience for bright engrams to open them and get random things that don't shoot or punch things in the face. Hats off to you, don't bother spending any money and grind it all out yourself. You see the thing is that the marketplace has absolutely nothing to do with the core gameplay. It's the same as weapon skins in something like counter strike, yeah that guys ak cost $3000 because it's low float, stat trak, and has expensive stickers, but your default ak does the same exact damage. Anything cosmetic has nothing to do the gameplay and you can still get everything without paying a single cent.

I think not only are you misguided, but naive as well. Money made by MTs don’t go into further game development. It won’t speed up content drops or patches. All of the content that will be released has already been preselected, predesignated, and pre-budgeted. Any additional money made will go straight into Bungie’s and/or Activision’s coffers. They don’t say “here’s all this extra money, let’s put it into the game”. It doesn’t work like that, it hasn’t worked like that. You’re also mistaken Bungie for some small-scrappy developer who has its “ears to the ground”. They’re a multi-million dollar studio, complete with their own stocks. They have money. Eververse is just an opportunity to get even more, for minimal effort. Also, don’t bring up that cosmetic argument up again, especially with the current state of D2.

Edited by AcidRohnin: 11/6/2017 5:54:22 PMAt one point I thought this as well as Bungie has said this but I now think it’s a blatant lie. Looking back in retrospect the free things they promised never really happened. Don’t say the events either as most of those were behind a pay wall as well.
-
Of course only time will tell and for something like destiny I would think development time would take much longer than for something like rocket league. The best of both worlds would be them adding unique shaders/ships/armor for strikes to have some special items unable to be purchased. As it stands now though I am ok with the purchases being purely cosmetic and obtainable without having to pay a cent.
-
Well they stated that it was for development like 2.5-3 years and that has yet to come to light. So don't expect this eververse to be any different.
-
For all we know the money could go to adding onto expansions or further polishing things. That's all up to bungie so we can only hope the money is going back into the game for players. Either way the fact that there is no pay to win and all of the items are unlockable without paying anything makes me think that there is no real issues with the system. It would be nice to have other unique items that aren't in bright engrams that reward the more hardcore/lucky players. It seems like console players tend to be much more anti microtransactions because most of the time they are added as pay to win for already $60 games whereas in pc most people buy games on sale or with in game currency like WoW gold as I know some people who bought the deluxe edition of D2 with. From my perspective there are no negative effects to cosmetic content being purchasable. There are way more important issues that destiny needs to tackle before worrying about people complaining that someone paid extra money to have more chances at getting some item that doesn't make them any stronger. Hopefully they can use the excess money they make to be able to work on other improvements like having allies show up on the map, adding more unique items, and hopefully increasing the longevity of the game for more grind heavy play styles.
-
Personally I don't mind them if done correctly. What I do mind though is shady practices. Saying this leads to more free events and things and then having said events come out and most being behind a pay wall is a joke. It's just bad business and something I could possibly look over if D2 wasn't in such a bad state at the moment imo. I don't mind micro transactions in warframe, or overwatch. Even shadow of War I've been indifferent on so far.
-
I personally don't know about the pay wall in the events since I stayed away from everything destiny related until PC release but hopefully working with blizzard gives them more ideas on how to keep players occupied. I feel like the main reason the game feels so small was how easy it was for veteran players to hit level cap. Maybe soon we will get some extra things to grind towards and more unique things to hunt, but until then I'll probably just get to a stopping point play occasionally with friends and then play other games in between expansions.

Yes and no. No endgame is a problem but for me personally the game isn't as fun as Vanilla D1. I'm not meaning this is the sense that D1 had more things to do; the gameplay and feeling was just better. Once that honeymoon phase wore off it became painfully obvious for me. D2 is a generic FPS and is a shell of its former self. Guardian is slow and weak, exotics are boring, and all the weapons and armor are more or less the same. Nothing to chase and nothing to grind for. This showed up in the beta but if i'm not mistaken bungie came out and said things(speed, recharge rate, etc.) would be comparable to D1 once you started to max out and change things. This isn't true though as mods and armor themselves don't change speed or recharge rates to anywhere near like D1. This is fine for PvP but makes PvE boring for me. As a stand alone game it isn't that bad. Just generic. So with you having never played destiny before now I can understand how it might seem as people are just complaining about something that is ok or even great in your opinion. Seeing Destiny's potential being changed and squandered just doesn't sit well with me and the game isn't what it was.
-
I played on 360 through taken king before all of my friends moved over to xbone. Having only played D2 for 2 weeks now it's still enjoyable, but I can see that soon I'll hit a point where there is nothing left to grind. I definitely am a bit biased gameplay wise because the game is absolutely beautiful and runs great on my pc as opposed to D1 on 360. I have noticed that everything feels slower (especially warlock imo) but so far it's still a lot of fun punching and shooting things in the face. Hopefully they start making some changes allowing for a better endgame grind and making the players feel more powerful instead of feeling nerfed to oblivion.

And it’s so painful to witness.
