Seriously in a game where communication is so needed I can't understand the design choice to remove area and global chats, I usually turn them off in games but it's needed here, just give us an option to block/mute other players and we can look after ourselves, no need to be such patronizing twats and taking away all communication because someone might get their feelings hurt ffs.

I'm in complete agreement of a chat feature being needed that is both voice and text capable; however there are some aspects about this issue that I feel strongly that the community is consistently overlooking that relate to why I agree so emphatically. At one point in my service, I took shrapnel to my vocal chords, and I've long-term issues using my voice. This is more than just a lack of functionality, and a stand must be taken, and text based chat must be featured for Destiny 2. It's a minor miracle I can still talk at all, but honestly, this girl isn't going to win any karaoke contests. ;) Forget that I'm a vet with a long-term challenge in using my voice though because this affects many gamers. Keep in mind that this is actually a very serious Social Justice issue for a few reasons: 1 - Some people are mute, but they enjoy games. 2 - Some people can't hear, and thusly did not learn to speak, but they enjoy games. BTW, at least that is 50% covered via the subtitles. 3 - Some people have had cancer (non-smokers can get throat cancer) and have had to have their larynx removed. 4 - I could go on forever, this is just off the top of my head. I've covered this topic in fairly grand detail at the following link here on Bungie Forums. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/241328427 This needs to be fixed, and some sort of opt-out of chat option was even suggested by several people here on the Bungie Net Forums that I concur in complete agreement with on the suggestion of an opt-out. As to an opt-out, it could even be made part of a "Parental Controls" setting. I've no problem with the idea of people "opting out" , but having this lack of communication forced on people; especially gamers with challenges (and there are many) is morally deplorable to the nth degree because it is an afront to many people who enjoy social gaming in MMO's. Please bear in mind, and emphasize to others why this is not just a game functionality issue, but that there are even larger considerations to be made as well for the benefit of all gamers. :) Thank you for reading, and Happy New Year. - Leah

Social spaces are anything but social. That goes for PS4, Xbox and PC.
-
I agree we need chat
-
Agree. Absolute joke this isn't an option.
-
Ok, so I joined a clan in order to get some people to play with, but it turns out I cant communicate with them. This is a joke..

We've been asking for this since Yr1. Many of us believed it would be one of the first QoL improvements they would add to D2. The old excuses - held back by old gen, piss-poor engine, etc. - don't apply anymore, so the only conclusion that can be drawn is that they're a bunch of lazy twats who just don't give a shit.

Edited by Sunfury: 10/29/2017 8:40:05 PMI don't care what you want to call it (MMO, co-op game, lobby game, etc)> It is absolutely unacceptable that the PC client does not have access to a "public chat" option. I thought something was broken on day one. I come to find out Bungie excluded public chat as an option (or the equivalent current peer to peer ring chat). I was blown away. Here I am, standing in a public game space and I can't type to the people next to me to: possibly build a group ask for help tell them about the heroic mode help someone with a question call out enemies Being able to join their fireteam is absolutely useless, especially considering that fireteams are limited to THREE PEOPLE. Three people!? Not to mention maybe they don't WANT me to join their firegroup but they still want to TALK to me. Our gaming group has four people in it and we all own Destiny 2. We can't all join the same fireteam. Someone is always left out (or we have to do this awkward 2/2 pairing where we can't play together.) Should we have known? Yes, probably. We know better now. But that doesn't excuse the fact that a PC game in 2017 doesn't have a public chat. Couple this with fireteam groups of THREE (max) and D2 looks like a severely incomplete and broken product (on PC). I'll just make this as clear as possible for Bungie: No one in our group will buying expansions or playing beyond "vanilla" with a PC client that is this neutered. I don't think anyone at Bungie is aware of the base level expectations of PC gamers. If they were, we wouldn't see this terrible, awful design choices.

Completely agree, especially on PC. There should be a region chat. Impossible to actually meet anyone or organize anything with randoms currently. Whoever at Bungie said the endgame is the friendships made or whatever....I'd like to know how exactly that can be accomplished when there is a major lack of any social features. There isn't even a clan chat, how pathetic is that? Make the option to opt out of the chats if you want but claiming that this was excluded due to "toxic" gamers and such is an incredibly poor excuse. If people want a safe space and don't want any social interaction give them the option but give others the option to chat, you know the people who have matured past the mental state of an infant and don't get their feelings hurt regarding ANY comment.

Chimps are finally waking up to the fact that destiny has been dead since launch! You're precious game is shit, if you like it so are you!
-
lol, they have more serious challenges like making a good game people want to play
-
Its painful to watch everyone standing around the tower on PC looking at each other with no general chat ... this games a huge turd thats only going to get quick fixes to tied people over for a week or so every now and then over the course of its existence...it will never have enuff content people want because of how stubborn they are with the game & there business plan for it. PC does feel nice though! But doesn’t change what it is.

Here you go join the conversation http://massivelyop.com/2017/10/30/destiny-2s-lack-of-social-features-encounter-serious-friction-from-players/ Bungie is starting to look bad due to ignorance of the PC issues.

Bungie do something this anti-social atmosphere is ruining my online experience. gonna be the last time i purchase a game from ur company if this isnt resolve.
-
When I heard the PC version was going to have a chat window, I rejoiced and preordered it right away. No wonder Bungie kept the details of what it would and would not do under wraps: its actual useage is so limited it may as well not even be there. Global Chat, Bungie! You're on Blizzard.net for God's sake. How lazy can you get?
-
Right? It makes absolutely no sense. It is the most quiet, anti-social social game I've ever played.

Edited by Sarden: 10/30/2017 6:00:26 PMPC has it, PC master race ? Except if everyone doesn’t join, they can’t even see you type anything... in an mmo...
-
I guess you wanna be that little kid talking all the racial slurs, body parts and screwing someones mama.....I bet you are the trash that does that

I refer to my reply to a guy here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/237049441?sort=0&page=0&path=1 Just ask Raph Koster who would also give them an ear full about a lack of chat , clan, and grouping functions. The game is good but Bungie has done a piss poor job on the social aspects of the game. In the future that will hurt the game. If you're in the gaming industry you should know Raph if not you have no business developing games as he is legend. So get working on this Bungie.

They had it already but then they banned it for using overlays.

Actually it's been time since yr 1

It’s called party chat or ps message. This isn’t PC nerd
