So my Dad finally finished Destiny 2 today....

My dad, who has been a Y1 Veteran (even tho he sorta stopped playing after TTK when everyone was hit with the WEASEL errors and we were never able to connect to each other again after that until Age of Triumph), finally decided to finish Destiny 2 tonight. When he saw the ending and got to the tower, his main response was this: (in which I'm only slightly paraphrasing because I can't remember the exact wording here) "Destiny 2 is much much more disappointing than Mass Effect: Andomeda." Let that sink in a second. Mass Effect: Andromeda was so poorly received that EA has since discontinued all support of Single Player DLC for the game and probably won't make another Mass Effect game, and Destiny 2 managed to beat that. Look, I'll admit; I was really hoping that this would be the return of the one game that my family and I would play together almost every weekend and on a good amount of weeknights. And I've been trying to support Destiny 2 for so long, but considering I haven't played since Week 2 just about, and I've been losing more and more ways of being able to support it for so long, it's just sorta happened. I can't say that I like Destiny 2 right now. I'm not saying it won't be good in the future if Bungie can actually change the game for the better in the DLC, but part of me is telling myself not to hold my breath here. I haven't once even attempted to do either the nightfall or the raid because of all the different BS put in like the timer and the gimmicky way of going around said BS. I'm still partially holding out for hope here that the game might become good in the future, but in the meantime, I guess I've still got games on my Laptop and Elite Dangerous on my PS4

  • More than Mass Effect Andromeda...... what?...... Did he really play it? Mass Effect Andromeda is incomparable. Two Worlds 2 was better than Mass Effect Andromeda. ET is better than or equal to Mass Effect Andromeda. MEA is quite possibly one of the worst outcomes for any IP. I mean....... nah I give up...

  • The last time I played a video game with my Dad was when Mario 64 came out. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen him do... Gripped tight on the controller, looking intently at the T.V., cursing and swinging his arms back and forth trying angrily to make Mario do what he wanted... LMAO! He would have lost his s*it on Destiny.

My son and I shared an account for d1, had over 2000 hrs in it, made my own acc for d2, to play with my son, he stopped playing d2 after finishing the story , and I barely play now, was so hoping he and I would play together but he hates it.

        • Watch these two Old Demos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIp7vZuYzoA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfhrONAp-c (got to about 2:00) When Destiny was first being shown off we were promised a Large Shared World Shooter RPG. That was "Ancient Fantasy" + "Hard Science Fiction". That is what it was initially advertised as and what Year 3 D1 was shaping up to be. The problem is that Destiny 2 has taken the franchise into becoming a game that I simply did not want. We got a standard FPS Skill based shooter with PvP set as end-game. It is trying to use the Halo formula to satisfy the competitive shooters. That design choice does not work with Loot based games. You're fighting against human players in the Crucible and you're fighting an army of drones in PvE. What makes PvE fun is being a powerful badass what makes the Crucible fun is the competition and proving your better against a real person with access to the same weapons abilities. They're not the same and should not be balanced as such. It is trying to be a jack of all trades but consequently making it a master of none. There are games that do what Destiny does, and better. Making it a competitive PvP is the opposite of what Destiny was supposed to be and shaping up to be by Year 3. This feels like a slap in the face to the people who stuck around and supported Destiny. Bungie should stop trying to make it Halo when that is a completely different formula. PvP does not work as a core aspect in Destiny. They took what could have been an amazing RPG and made it a simple shooter. Big middle finger to the fans who made the first game successful. People are not happy because Bungie is leaning towards making a standard shooter rather than deliver on the Epic RPG that was originally promised. The developers needed more time to deliver the game's scope and depth that they originally intended to make. Destiny is made by AAA developers, supported by AAA publishers, and is sold as a $60 game. They already have the money and support they need to make a complete product. The fact that it is not a complete game at launch, and is in reality an incomplete foundation that relies on content updates as well as paid DLCs to add things that should have been in the game in the first place, is unacceptable.

        • First, if you stopped at week 2, then you probably missed out on some events, and don't say "I've heard and seen enough. Not interested." If you support Destiny 2 then you would at least see what it has to offer in full. Second, no disrespect to you or your dad. Mass Effect: Andromeda came out 5 years after its last instalment. Destiny 2 came out 3 years after Destiny 1. Mass Effect fans didn't know what to expect from a new entry in the franchise since the trilogy wrapped up the Shepard story, and since the studio behind it head development trouble (outsourcing the animations to separate studio) the game suffered for it. Destiny was still fresh in gamer's minds when D2 dropped and the changes made to it sent many for a loop, but it wasn't such a big departure as it was with Mass Effect. Does D2 have animation problems plaguing every cutscene and character interaction? No. But, it does have an RNG problem, that can be manageable. Both are a mess, but keep in mind that Activision, and by extension Bungie, are in this 'til 2024. Find ways to help communicate the problems and issues in a concise and clear manner, or play other games, as you mentioned, to pass the time until new content (and hopefully fixes) drops.

        • Agreed. Bump. Anyone with a computer can go check out Activision's stock over the last 30 days. It's a much bigger problem than just this forum. Anyone who sits here calling people whiny cry babies is absolutely blind. I mean, literally blind, as in they can't read the market telling the world that Activision is going down hill - with real numbers ... and charts .. and graphs ... and all that cool stuff. (said with sarcastic tone).

        • Neither game was disappointing. Both communities had unrealistic expectations. Though Bioware knew they were releasing a flawed game. Any Real Destiny player knows that the campaign is basically an elaborate tutorial.

          • yes, people hate Andromeda because it's story lacking and for graphic animations but Andromeda has a 100x greater story then this shit.

            • It's anecdotal, but indicative. There are stories like this all over the place. Not usually about someones dad, but lots of stories about people finishing the game and quitting right away. The problems with the endgame become evident almost as soon as you get there. Most of us see it right away, some of us take a couple weeks to notice, but eventually, we'll all see how bad this game is. Your dad is one of the smarter among us. He should be congratulated. It took me a couple days to figure out how bad this game is after I finished the story.
