destiny 1's biggest continuous hype was random rolls, the search for the god roll, it gave people a reason to do X activity , for that weapon, with that roll.
you can talk about balance, player fairness, or anything all you want
but what kept people coming back was the hunt for loot
that hunt is dead

If they had borderlands level of amount of guns, I don't think people would miss random rolls. Cause you'd be hunting through a multitude of guns trying to find the one you wanted. I feel like the baked in perk system is a little more realistic, and makes every gun feel different from each other. The problem with god rolls is the same problem we are seeing with Uriel's, Mida, Last hope, etc except slightly different. Everyone was still hunting the same thing, just instead of it being a specific gun, it was specific perks. Sure you could find guns that worked miracles in your hands that were not "god rolls" but how often did you just look at a gun's perks, not see the god roll and then immediately dismantled it? My only complaint on this front, not enough guns. Give us so many guns that we are complaining about RNG not giving us what we want!
