WHY Timers should be removed from 'Basic' Nightfall challenges.

It is obvious from the all the level progression mechanisms for Destiny 2 that it is focused on Casual Gamers. Timers are not 'Fun' for someone who can only play 10 hours a week. I would say they are not 'Fun' period, but some hard core gamers who really really want a challenge do like them. However, those core gamers are clearly not the 'target audience' for Destiny 2. Casual Gamers are much more likely to be willing to take 2 hours to 'PLAY SLOWLY' and ensure they 'COMPLET' a Nightfall, than they are to play for hours repeatedly failing because they can't 'Beat The Clock'. So, why do Timers exist at all if Bungie 'Wanted' to target Casual Gamers? Well to make Nightfall's challenging in a 'cheap' and easily alterable way. This way dev's can 'adjust' the 'difficulty' with basically the nudge of a setting rather than actually doing AI or Level design work. Ok, I get that. It does the job it is intended to do and it is super cheap to implement. However, Timers are not 'Fun' and casual players want to 'Have Fun' not to be frustrated for hours before quit with 0 rewards. Yes they want to be challenged, that is part of having fun the it is what makes 'winning' feel good. But constantly 'failing' to 'beat the clock' does not feel good. Timers should be something 'Optional' that gives some kind of additional reward to players who want to take on additional challenge, not a requirement for the weekly challenges. There are many players who are willing to 'take it slow' and spend hours to 'COMPLETE' the Nightfall. So why is that not allowed in this game? This is not PvP 'Fairness' issue, who cares if people sit at range and pick things off so it takes hours to finish a Nightfall? Is it hurting other players? Does it hurt Bungie in some way? How would 'other' players even know if some 'COOP' players are 'being cachous' by picking things off from a distance? Nightfalls and Raids are 'individual' or 'small group' challenges. If teams are willing to spend hours to 'complete' a Nightfall, then let them. Right now many are spend hours banging their heads against the wall and until the finally give up. Who is benefitting from that? Do the 'Good Gamers' who can beat the Nightfall easily benefit somehow? NO. Because when these 'Casual Gamers' leave and profits from Micro Transactions and DLC sales fall, development will fall off or end and the odds of their being a Destiny 3 are reduced.

  • I agree, the nightfall timer is no fun at all. What's funny is, i see people say that the timer keeps people from 'cheesing' or it keeps people from hiding behind cover or whatever as if there was matchmaking for the nightfall and strangers with no mic were somehow ruining their experience. If those were your problems with a timerless nightfall in D1, you have only yourself and your friends to blame for camping with snipers and 'cheesing'. The timer isn't going away, but it does need to be optional.
