Why was Ward Of Dawn Nerfed?

I'm no good at writing lengthy arguments so I'll go with these points: 30 seconds as opposed to 45 seconds (optional but usually always chosen by many in D1) Can be broken by conventional weapon fire Only supplies armor of light, blessing and weapons of light have been removed Cannot generate more orbs as it is continually damaged Death usually accompanies a nova bomb that was thrown from outside onto the shield, which makes no sense The only thing that was improved is the deployment time and animation, everything else was shit on for some reason. And yes I know that we 'have two supers in one', but defender has been gutted. At least make it so it can't be destroyed by gunfire. Sentinel is also way more useful in blocking damage as you can actually move around while doing so, but sometimes you gotta protect a zone or your allies, rather than just yourself.

I can see why the old subclasses were toned down and aren't as good as they were in D1. It's probably because D1 was, in my opinion, heavily ability based. D2, however, seems to be trying to get players to become more gun based. Also, has anyone noticed that what really makes the WoD weak now is the fact that the buff doesn't go with you when you leave the bubble unlike D1? Just a thought...

    • I switched from being a titan to a warlock because they nerfed the titan. no more blessing of light or weapon of light. and a very nerfed ward of dawn.. has just killed the titan for me.

    • Because PvP, most likely. Having access to a mobile shield AND a stronger Titan bubble at the same time would cause problems.

Defender was a support class like the sunslinger warlock. Bungie did away with support classes because they are idiots and in a YouTube video one of the main developers said us players were to stupid to make our own minds up on how to run a spec just because he didn't know how. All supers now on all characters are watered/dumbed down versions of what they were and all are the same but with different colors. U just thro shit across the map and kill stuff. No skill needed in PVP and especially PVE which was what the game was really meant to be in the begining. God forbid we have any individuality or want to run a character our own way. D2 ruined the RPG side of the game to cater to casual idiots and PVP tards.

        • Its still good in certain clutch moments. For example 1v4 match game. When attacking plant the bomb amd wait patiently. Stay close to the bomb and when they start shooting at u pop ur bubble on the bomb. Remember the goal is to stall as long as possible. Set up a barricade in ur bubble to prevent any ball-z attempts. If an enemy has a super pray u are good with supressor nades. Also hav a pistol handy👌. If defending ur best bet is to either have ur teammates distract while u fly over, drop ur bubble and start diffusing. It will take about like 9 or so melees to kill u now😂👌thank gawd. Maybe use feedback gauntlets for these moments. But yea WoD sucks now. Can be taken down with nades, elemental and power weapons really fast. :/ Oh yea in yr 1 it was amazing for capturing points in overtime. WoD was as good as ur team and bubble man. If ur team is godlike, slap on glasshouse, illuminated and some weapons or blessings. Ur team will wreak havoc. If the bubble man himself can get some kills he can have his super back in less that 45 sec lol. Ive taken on many idiots in the thunder dome. Never challenge bubble man unless u have a super or a team of shotguns.

Probably because in the crucible, WoD was next to useless unless there were capture objectives or you had a shotgun. Since shotguns are power now, and they wanted to make sentinel more appealing for use everywhere, they made captain america. They probably didn't want to get rid of the option however, for the die hard fans. WoD however had always sucked. What made it great was the buffs you can set to it. Now, with set trees and a spec towards the mobile option, it lost it's big use and warlocks snapped it up. The new WoD is a towering barracade in front of a warlock rift, save your super for bashing heads.

            • You're lucky you even have the old super back. The real question: why were the old subclasses taken out? But that said, I'm not sure why they brought it back if it's not worth using. I feel like having another perk in its place making sentinel better would be the smarter choice.

It’s not a nerf. The super is called sentinel not defender. It’s an entirely new subclass. It’s only void because there are only three forms of ‘tangible’ light in destiny. If ward ability had more buffs than just AoL than that’s a class that has 3 variants instead of the normal two. Arcstrider is also a new subclass. Meaning in the destiny universe, blade dancers still exist. The same goes for any other newly named subclasses.

                • I think it's pretty obvious why it was nerfed, it used to grant enough damage to one shot body shot with no issues, give enough health to survive almost any super in the game (could even survive a point blank Rocket), you had a mini tether for a grenade, could lock down flags or zones without needing to worry about anything and when you had 5 defenders on the field your team could get unlimited supers (which worked well with Golden Gun). It's not even bad now at all, try using it in Trials of the Nine... probably one of the best supers to use in something like Countdown.

They should keep it how it is but, instead of it being a choice between which super is activated, they should both activate at the same time. (Activate sentinel super as usual but a ward of dawn bubble is created in the spot you activated sentinel shield. So then you can run around using the sentinel shield whilst the ward of dawn bubble is left active.) Would actually be pretty cool to activate the ward of dawn on a group of enemies, then throw your shield inside the ward of dawn so the shield bounces around the bubble killing all the enemies

                      • Curse of Osiris should bring back things like Helm of Saint-14, or add an exotic for weapons or blessing. THEN WoD May see some use, aside from a Sentinel super mess up.

They took spike away from us too. Sentinels meant to be a defensive super but it only performs well when being used agressively, so your only option is ward, but it gets annihilated by every other super inside or out (for bubble) It's a waste of a perk, especially since it takes so damn long to do. If it had something like "it uses like half of your super bar" for it, I would like this better, but it really serves no actual purpose, it protects the enemy from YOU! Sentinel is just a crappy ad control super now, but it does it worse than sunbreaker does Xl

                      • Because having 2 Supers in one subclass is a bit unfair. A shield and a bubble? You already have both but atleast it’s not the D1 bubble with blessing etc.

                        • I would much rather have ward of dawn back with blessings and weapons of light or that healing/damage rift if that's what they're calling it in one tree and Sentinel in the other.

                        • My guess on weapons of light being removed is because they gave warlock damage rift and then gave titans instant reload barricade. I'd guess they wanted to avoid double stacking the damage buffs, and then combine that with instant reload barricade, for a crazy damage boost that would be hard to balance without hurting solo or small party use. For example, 1 phasing calus would be stupidly easy for 3 titan 3 warlock if the buffs stacked and they all ran rally. You could probably 1 to 2 plate the phase lol.

                                • Purely due to the way D2 functions now design wise, and the fact that the Defender class as a whole was reworked to become the Sentinel we have now. WoD cant have so many options now that it's only a single perk on a skill column, as opposed to the focal point of the class.
