The Differences between D1 and D2

For a solo player; absolutely none. I admit I stopped playing D1 at year 3. But from what I remember I reached a certain light level, didn't raid or nightfall, did Iron Banana when it swung thru the tower, and didn't play when it wasn't. Now in D2, I've reached a certain light level, don't feel like grinding raids and nightfalls every Tuesday, waiting for the events like Iron Banana, and I don't want to play until it gets here. I heard all about the exploration, and lost sectors and things to find for solo players and I'm just not seeing it. After 250 or 260 it doesn't even matter if you do alot of the other content. The only reason I lasted this long is they made it harder to level up when they tied infusion to the type of gun. If they didn't there's no way I'd be using Sturm & Drang right now. In conclusion Destiny 2 feels more limited. It's "You have to play using this skill tree with the guns we give you." And I'm hopeful this will change. Year 1 Destiny 1 was very different from Year 2. A completely different game. But so far Destiny 2 is that same game. Not a sequel. Not improved beyond a certain point. Unless you're super casual and you grab a drink and feel like chatting with your crew on a Tuesday night after work. Until then you're waiting for something amazing like the rest of us.
