I dint read you post but I agree with the title. Fixed perks are really shit. Now all I do when I see a gun I already have is check the power level and delete the lowest one. Same with armour.... 😡😡😡

Instead of deleting it, use it to infuse into something else. And in case you're thinking 'If something needs to be infused with something I was going to shard anyway neither one must be any good to begin with', then you're missing the point. That being you're constantly improving what you already have rather than simply throwing both away. It's like throwing dollar bills away because they're not twenty dollar bills, without thinking that by saving those dollar bills you'll eventually have a twenty dollar bill. ;) Remember also that even rare (blue) items may have a higher base level (the level without a +5 mod) than a legendary you have and therefore can be infused into the legendary to increase the legendary items light ('power') level. So don't think 'It's a rare. It's worthless' and immediately shard it. Save them for infusion of something you already have or may acquire later.

  • Sounds like you didn't read my post. And you're talking to someone who played the shit out of destiny for 3 years.

I did read it. Who do you think I was replying to?
Now all I do when I see a gun I already have is check the power level and delete the lowest one.
Which is a mistake. Although it may be lower than its twin, it doesn't make it useless. It will have value at some point. I've posted about this several times and in detail. So unless you desperately need the vault space or legendary shards, etc, save everything. Btw, I too "played the shit out of Destiny for 3 years".

  • No it really won't. There is absolutely no reason to hoard items of the same type

Keeping the higher power level weapon/armor piece is obvious. Yes, you will use the higher level one now. You may even infuse it into something now. The lower level one you should keep, as long as you have vault space, in the event that you someday get something that it can be infused into in order to raise its base level. I do so daily using weapons and gear that were seemingly worthless when I acquired them and which, like you, I sharded. And again, like you, I too deleted the lower lvl weapon/armor piece because at the time I failed to understand they may have value in the future. And it turned out they did.

  • If you have two of the same weapon, infusing one into the other does absolutely nothing but waste shards. Only way it would make sense is if one had a 5 defense mod, then that is the one to keep and should be infused if it happens to be the lower power level version.

True. But there are a lot of people who don't understand the value of even rares and automatically shard what could be used to infuse into a legendary that has a +5 mod thus artificially increasing it's power level. That also applies to legendary items one has not acquired yet. So if you have a stockpile of 'good' blues, saving them for that reason is a good idea. Note: you can do the same with Exotics as well. They too can be infused to increase their base power level, It's something a large number of players have yet to notice since it's not explained in the game.

  • Yeah, I don't dismantle if I know I could use that higher power on another weapon with the same archetype. In general I know what I need, so when I get duplicates I usually swap with the lower power one I have them shard the old one. Or I just immediately infuse it into something I have equipped. Only time I shard a duplicate immediately is when I end up getting 2 or 3 in a row from engram's and have no use for their power level elsewhere (really annoying when that happens).

I save them anyway in case I get something later where it could be useful. When I run out of room in the vault I can shard legendary items for marks or delete blues for weapon parts and turn em into Banshee 20 feet away. That way I'm always gaining something from nearly anything. Btw, I'm still working on squeezing water from a rock but I expect a technological breakthrough soon. >;)

  • How monotonous right? More of a chore than anything resembling a fun experience.

To me that's part of the game, hence fun. Since day 1 of D1 I've always looked for ways to get something from what many assumed was worthless and not worthy of their time. And I've found some clever ways of using something to obtain something else which I can use to get something else and so on and so forth. It's a game within the game.
