Poll Question: What should be done to nerf MIDA? MIDA Multi-Tool is relishing an alarming high usage rate in the Crucible: It has successfully maintained the #1 most used weapon in PvP all month according to DestinyTracker.
http://db.destinytracker.com/d2/en/items/1331482397-mida-multi-tool
If Bungie is attempting to achieve weapon balance throughout the Destiny ecosystem, MIDA needs to be reined in. In Destiny 1, this was achieved by removing the High-Caliber Rounds perk. Although this solution hurt its PvE performance, it felt somewhat balanced in the Crucible. What are your thoughts on what should be altered? Vote and comment! EDIT: An established Destiny community member's thoughts on the MIDA problem (starts at 5:00). • The problem isn't the gun by itself. 1 Mida isn't an issue. It's when you get jumped by 3 or 4 of them when you go to check a corner. It's RoF, range, stability, and HCR make the gun ridiculously OP in numbers. People were complaining about walking around corners into snipers in d1. Well it's happening again in D2. This time it's a horde of Mida shots that you have no chance of surviving.

  • No problem whatsoever, the only problem is those not willing to adapt and create counters for MIDA, I know for a fact my Uriels can out gun a MIDA no problem.

I use MMT in PvP and when I go up against a better player I get shredded and they aren't using MMT all the time. It's not the gun, it's the player. If you're getting killed by MMT "all the time" it's because everyone can get one, unlike in D1. It's always been a go-to PvP weapon since I got my first one in D1. One aspect no one talks about is that so far all of the weapons in D2 PvP are very balanced so even a little advantage (like MMT high caliber or Nameless Midnight's exploding rounds) makes a more noticeable difference. I'm an average to decent player. I get killed as much as I kill. The current MMT is nothing like Y1 Thorn. Y1 Thorn totally changed my game and drastically increased my KD. MMT is not doing anything like that this time. The reality is I think so much of the complaining going on about this one gun are from people who are not as good as they think they are and are frustrated. Maybe in D1 a specific weapon helped you out, that's not happening in D2 and that's the way it should be. Also, with 4-man teams we're getting shot at a lot more often. The gameplay is noticeably different in D2. I find it more competitive and more of a challenge. MMT is taking the blame for players who don't like the change.

  • Why do people get so but hurt when a weapon clearly needs to be nerfed

    • Here is the issue. The gun is fine in PvE. It could even use a damage buff maybe. They need to stop making changes that negatively affect PvE just to satiate PvP players

      • Other weapons can have High-Caliber Rounds but no other Kinetic or Energy weapon has the Third-Eye (MIDA Radar) bonus. I guess just integrate 'MIDA Radar' into some legendary gear, maybe one of each primary type?

        • Make better alternative weapons in the kinetic slot because let's be honest, there's only about 4 or so and really not many useful exotics. So the real reason everyone's using it is simply (because why wouldn't you?!) Take a look at all the vast and powerful weapons for energy slot. Clearly one had more attention than the other.

        • Bungie nerfed a ton of individual guns in D1 and it ultimately didn't make the game much better. PvP was left in a worst state than in the past. Instead of worrying about punishing the MIDA, there should be more thought given to how we can make other weapons more appealing options, because right now, the MIDA is one of the best teamshot machines in the game with a persistent radar on top.

I don't think high caliber needs removed, but as a perk it is crazy strong on all weapons that have it. I'd personally reduce the flinch that perk causes a tad (against guardians, doesn't need to affect PvE at all). I think the number of people I see using mida is continually decreasing personally as people are experimenting with other options.

            • Check your poll. Majority of the community says the gun is balanced. Perhaps try dying less?

Lmao ah the downvotes just for trying to discuss it. I'm for same as D1. No hcr. The ones that claim that broke it in D1 are just wrong. Unless their argument is you can't stun lock with it in pve anymore. In which case I'd say that's not the point of a mobility weapon

                • The only problem the weapon has is PvP gamers and Bungie for not learning after 3 years of feedback, learn how to make weapons compete with one another. Or they are just straight up lazy and don't want to so they can have this "meta change"
Nerf every single thing in this game and call it "balancing" this entire game.
• Bungie does not know how to balance or nerf without breaking the gun or ability entirely. There's a -blam!-ing post in here asking for sword nerfs! -blam!-ING SWORDS!!! I'm sorry but I am not looking forward to an endless cycle of nerfs for this game. The people that are dying over and over to MiDA are standing -blam!-ing still and not disengaging or they're out of position. And people really need to stop peeking when their lit up... this from a Better Devils user.

                • IMO it’s very balanced. In Trials for me, the other team happens to use MIDA and uses Navy Seal Tactics, completely shattering the competition. It’s not the gun, it’s just that Trials is very strategy and tactics based now which is good in my opinion.

                • It doesnt need nerfed. It needs an equally powerful weapon to combat it. -i am having de ja vu- There will never truly be balance in this game, the fight to not have a meta is a never ending one. Once mida is buried in the ground, something else will rise to its place and everybody will use it. Then the cycle will continue on from there.

                • Idk why they brought it back. Mida became only good after all the nerfs to other guns in d1. Personally i used it mostly only for crotas end abyss as a lvl 31. otherwise it was a waste of an exotic slot. Nerf it to the ground bc: I hate the sound of that gun. been waiting for d2 pc ver. And all the shit or whatever i see/hear about this game makes me reconsider if i really even want it anymore.
leaning rowards: when bundled with "expansions" If at all.
• I think the gun is very well balanced. Imo right now guns are not the problem. It's the constant team shooting that's starting to get old. I think simply buffing grenades back to a potential ohk with a stick would help curve this from being a constant non stop thing. Nobody wants to die because they're standing too close to their buddy who just got stuck with a grenade.

                      • After talking to several people about the subject, I as well as a few others believe reducing the efficiency of high caliber rounds in pvp would solve a lot of issues.

It's not a simple nerf to Mida that'll accomplish this. The thing is, most scouts kill in 5 shots, some kill in 4 shots but take longer to shoot and have higher impact, making the faster firing scouts (like mida) a no brainer to use instead. There are many scouts that are really good and have practically the same gun stats as the Mida, so nerfing Mida alone wouldn't fix the underlying issues. Mida isn't a simple fix, it's a whole balancing issue because even if you try to change all the Mida-like scouts as well, you'll have to change how everything else functions so that it works accordingly with the change. This is not a simple task to complete. Another forum user suggested changing how third eye worked on Mida, so that it didn't stay in the top left of the screen and instead moved to the middle of the scope and was holographic. While I kinda like his idea, putting it in the scope wouldn't be a good idea and would create a lot of unhappy gamers (but let's be honest, any change will create a lot of unhappy gamers). Some other ideas that I've heard are to lower how much flinch a person takes when being shot by the Mida. As I'm told that it is more than normal (due to High Caliber Rounds?). Another one is to lower it's aim assist by some (for all guns or just all scouts).
