Mod Slot Improvements: How to improve the feeling of PvE while keeping PvP balanced (Feel Free to Suggest improvements)

THE POINT WHERE THE PLAN STARTS IS IN BOLD AND UNDERLINED BELOW (in case you want to skip to it) In it's current state, Destiny 2's gameplay falls woefully short of Destiny. A lot of this is due to changes made to make PvP balancing easier and have Destiny 2 E-sports be much more possible. This includes things like: Reducing subclass tree choices down to two options, massively inflating ability cooldowns so that they could not be spammed, merging special weapons with heavy weapons so the ammo for both could be heavily regulated, and removing perks from armor pieces. PvE was unfortunately hamstrung by this effort. Guardians spend much less time feeling like guardians than they do waiting to feel like guardians. With the perks and customizable subclass skill trees removed, the individuality of each guardian seems greatly diminished, as instead of building your own legend, you feel like you are simply following one of a select few paths that have been set for you. ACTUAL PLAN STARTS HERE (For those who wanted to skip the lead up) I think that I may have come up with a solution to this problem (or at least a way to somewhat alleviate it) using systems that are already present in the game, without overwriting the changes made to make PvP less work to balance. The answer is mod slots. This would primarily effect armor. This is the idea. Instead of a single mod slot that can take any mod for that armor piece, each piece could have 3 or 4 mod slots: One could be designated All Game Modes. Any of the current mods could be slotted in, as they are already balanced for PvP. One could be designated for ability cooldown mods. These mods would be more potent than the current ones, but this mod slot would be inactive in PvP, so as not to change the current balance. The remaining one or two slots would be Perk slots. Depending on What armor slot they were, they may be things like Weapon Type Ammo Perk (For things like bonus sniper ammo), Grenade Improvement (for perks like Paramuscular Armature or Mortal Medicine), Melee Improvement ( for additions such as or Rain Blows), or special things like Better Already or Heavy Lifting. These would also be inactive in PvP. Having these additional slots would make the hunt for new gear relevant again, as you may have Gauntlets with a Melee Improvement Slot, but, due to your unique playstyle and build, may want Grenade Improvement instead. It would increase the diversity of the way players build, and make them feel unique again. Exotic Mods that add perks from Current or past Skill Trees could also be slotted in to any of the Non- PvP Mod Slots. This would help add diversity and player choice back to the game, again without ruining the balance of PvP. These would also add another incentive to keep chasing new drops. I truly enjoy Destiny 2, and do not want to see it fail. If we want to reclaim the power that we once felt, there are some changes that need to be made. I just want to find the way to do that, without ruining the experience of others. If you think that this would be a good plan, please upvote the thread to help Bungie see it, and comment with additions to make it better. Cosmo, I am counting on you to get this to the right people so they can decide if it has merit. Thank you for your time - Valiant Outcast

 • I'm not sure if the mods would need to be non PvP only. If they added alternatives to the ability improvement mods that affected your guns it would create an interesting choice for players in PvE and PvP. Say I add a mod that increases handling for all auto rifles. But this shares a spot with the mod that reduces grenade CD. Do you take the grenade cooldown to give yourself more windows of power, or do you take the gun handling to make yourself a more consistent fighter? Basically a variation on the classic burst damage vs constant DPS. Also wanna throw out something most people didn't realise was how important your armor stats/perks were to building around your exotic. If I get the Sunbracers on my Warlock that makes my solar grenade better, I would normally look for armor that has high discipline and/or perks that affect grenades in anyway (like grenade throw distance or grenade energy on kill for my weapons). In destiny 2, that is gone. What is the point of having an awesome grenade if I have to wait over a minute for it to come off cooldown? Same thing goes for if you pick the mods that affect weapons. Pick an exotic like Actium war rig that auto loads your auto rifles and you got yourself a killer auto rifle build.
