The Hawkmoon was not my first exotic, but it is by far my favorite from Destiny. It became my signature weapon - in my clan, I was known for using the Hawkmoon and clearing crowds, headshot after headshot, hardly ever missing. It took the boredom I was feeling in Destiny, and pushed it away by giving me an all new weapon to experience - in terms of my love for Destiny and my performance with high-impact weaponry, the Hawkmoon was the turning point for me. Much as I love Destiny 2, it just isn't the same without the Hawkmoon. I have a pretty good hand cannon as my energy weapon in Destiny 2, but it isn't the same without the Hawkmoon. I still haven't finished mourning its loss.
Please, Bungie. Bring it back. If ANY exotic deserved a return to Destiny 2, surely you didn't forget this masterpiece of a gun?

To be fair, I can understand why all the stuff was taken away, to some extent - just gotta rebalance the game so newcomers can enjoy the game too - but with so many exotic items coming back from Destiny 1 with some newer perks, or new names, or maybe even slightly new looks, surely the Hawkmoon deserved a spot? Of course, the Hawkmoon does kind of live on in the Sturm hand cannon, but I kinda liked how independently the Hawkmoon operated, whereas the Sturm, awesome as it is, basically needs the Drang to reach its true potential.
