Destiny 2 Review

Destiny 2 is finally here and it's been about a week and a half since it launched. I've played a lot and here's what I think about the game so far divided into all the different activities in the game. Campaign The campaign was spectacular as many others are talking about it. The campaign actually has a coherent story this time that is told well. The campaign is a good length with plenty to do throughout. The campaign has the required main story missions: featuring spectacular cutscenes and story-based shooting, adventures: mini story missions that Last from 10-15 minutes giving you more story about the area you are fighting in, Public Events: coming from D1 except this time you can find out when and where an event is starting and they are rewarding, The Crucible: unlocked after the first two missions and is talked about in-depth later in the review, Strikes: unlocked about 3/4s through the campaign and talked about later in the review, and Patrol: Unlocked about 3/4s through the campaign acting as mini challenges that reward you with a corresponding token for that planet - mentioned later in the review. I'm not going to talk about the story for spoiler reasons but I will say it is very well told. Section Score: 10/10 The Crucible The Crucible is back in D2 but it's changed...a lot. This time around bungie was aiming for more team-based tactics. Everything is 4v4, yes rumble is gone. Assists now count as kills adding team shooting into the game now more than ever. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Crucible requires way more team strategy this time around...especially in the competitive playlist. Crucible is split into two playlists, you can no longer choose your game-mode. The two playlists are quick play and competitive. Quick-Play consists of the following modes: Clash, Control, and Supremacy. Competitive consists of: countdown and survival. It's a lot of fun but it has problems. Such as the following: you don't get to choose a game mode so if you want a specific game mode you will have to wait for it to come up in the playlist, players will leave matches a lot, in competitive communication is pretty much essential making it hard for solo players to play it. Overall I give this section an 8/10, it's good but it needs work. Exploring the Worlds There are four massive worlds to explore, each bigger than any in the first game. Each world is filled with activities and this time around you have to walk to them in the world. Traveling these planets includes walking, fast-travel points, and sparrow riding. You can track a place so you don't get lost making it easy to get from one activity to the next. The director has also been very much improved allowing you to travel from one activity to another instantaneously without having to return to orbit. These worlds have tons of stuff to do including: story missions, adventures(described in the campaign section), public events, patrols, and lost sectors: mini dungeons/caves marked with a symbol with a boss and chest. Doing an activity will reward you with the planet's tokens which you can use on the corresponding factions for each planet. If you level up your faction you will receive great rewards. This helps make everything rewarding and fun to play. Overall exploration is great at 10/10 Strikes Strikes are very well made and gameplay is spectacular. A strike will have you go through puzzles, waves of enemies, and challenging bosses. The problem with strikes is that they are all in a playlist. You can no longer find them on the planets or choose your strike. For this reason I'm gonna have to give this section a 7/10. Strikes are great but do not give enough choice to the player. The Nightfall Strike The nightfall is very exciting and intense forcing you to coordinate with your fire-team and your load outs effectively. The nightfall this time around has a time limit. If this time limit runs out you fail the nightfall and will have to start over. You can get more time by killing enemies or jumping through time Rings. There is a focused element that changes constantly throughout the strike that you need to focus on. Overall this piece of content requires coordination and teamwork making it a lot of fun. 10/10 The Leviathan Raid This raid is the MOST CHALLENGING RAID you will ever play. It's very well made featuring a very new location on a ship called he leviathan which feels like a massive ancient temple full of puzzles and elaborate traps. The leviathan raid consists of new story, new enemies, and a new boss. The raid has lots of puzzles and challenges and one boss fight. Each challenge is very complex with many different mechanics that your team will have to figure out perfectly if you want to move on. It's an impressive challenge that will take a lot of work to complete but when you do it is very satisfying. This raid can be VERY frustrating and take a lot of your time. I'm gonna give this section a 9/10. If you like an intense challenge than you will love it but it is not for casuals. Trials of the Nine The latest piece of content that bungie has released is spectacular. This is the new version of trials of Osiris. Not much has changed except a new map, different game modes, and LOCKED LOAD-OUTS. You will have to plan your load-outs before going in with your fire-team once again giving the game more team-based factors. This section is a lot of fun and very rewarding 10/10. Overall the game is a 9/10. It has problems but it's a lot of fun and bungie promises much more along the road. I don't think this game is for casual players or solo players unfortunately. Hopefully this changes with the launch of guided games. Overall I love this game and can't wait to play more. 9 / 10

  • 9 out of 10? Wow... you are easy to please. I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Its a game. A biring game. But this time it has all the features that a game from 2007 had. Not sure how you make it a 9 just for adding Ubisoft features, while subtracting so much of what made D1 good. To me it sounds like you already decided that you liked it before you started playing. Get back to me next month if you still feel this way. My guess is that people will be off of this game faster than they were off of D1.
