What makes you think you have a right to pay rent late?
I'm with max on this. Didn't you agree on a rent payment schedule?
What makes you think you have a right to pay rent late?
The only way this could be funnier is if Cellar said this as well.

Woah, you sounded like one of those heartless Republicans you hate.
-
Oh the irony.
-
3 days? I'm pretty sure he doesn't have the right for that either
-
It's not a right, but it happens. In most rental/lease agreements, there is a provision for late fees. It varies widely by area, but where I live, there is a 3 day grace period. If rent is later than 3 days, a notice to pay is placed on the door of the residence. 7 days after that, an eviction notice may be placed on the door. The eviction process takes 90 days, in which the tenant may still live in the dwelling, but the tenant will still be held liable for paying rent during the time they are there. If the tenant doesn't pay rent during eviction, then once the court finalized eviction, the court also makes a judgement that the tenant needs to pay the total amount owed for back rent. So to hear that rent will be late, and then to tell a tenant to leave in 3 days, is unreasonable in my opinion, and illegal according to the laws of my area. I especially think it is unreasonable to give someone 3 days to move out if they have always been on time, and they are giving the landlord notice ahead of when that rent would be due. Even if that is legal in the area this happened, it's just my opinion that it is still a dick move.

What makes you feel the need to comment when no one cares about your opinion?
-
He tends to think people care about what he has to say pretty often which is weird cause they really don't
-
Lol Story of my life.

A shit ton of people pay rent late. Not every landlord is gonna go through the hoops to evict someone who says they can pay the rent a few days later than the 3rd. The notice has to be given, but even when it's given the eviction process isn't always started. The only reason to stress eviction is if the tenant is really bad, but even still the process takes awhile. No way can you get someone out in 3 days. The court will allow the renter time to move out. Besides, so many people leave without paying the last months rent as it is. As a landlord, if you piss your tenants off there's also a possibility of them not paying the rent, up and leaving, and absolutely destroying your property leaving you to pay for all of that shit. You can try to hunt someone down to reimburst you, but you can't force it. All that shit costs money as well. You can't give them a prison sentence. Worst you can do is mess their credit up, which is alleviated by a co signer. Under certain circumstances, it becomes "is it worth it or not?" There's many laws that protect both ends.
-
The dude is unreasonable. Court would definitely agree.
-
No- they wouldn't.
-
I went to court after only given two weeks. *SPOILER ALERT* I won.
-
Then it clearly was not for the same reasons as the OP.
-
It actually was. I grew up poor. SAME EXACT REASON. We missed one weeks rent and we had to move. Shit's different these days. I feel bad for DeMix. I understand the struggle of major bs. My brothers also had the same problems. DeMix literally did NOTHING WRONG. Personal issues come way before one weeks rent. He was literally going to pay him extra.. What a bitch landlord.
-
If you think entering rent arrears constitutes 'doing nothing wrong', then you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
-
Because most people in the states pay rent late. There are a lot of lower-class individuals in the world unfortunately. And most have to catch up on rent. He knows I have a nice income. And any other landlord wouldn't care.(at least most) I can see why he's mad. But it's still very unreasonable. Very unprofessional as well. I feel bad for the next couple who has to deal with him. Leaves me perplexed. But it's whatever now.
-
Seriously? You are going on about the landlord being 'unprofessional' when you are the one with a self-proclaimed nice income and paying rent late... Are you daft?
-
Not here to argue. The personal issue is far more important that an anguished, naive, and presumptuous landlord lmao. I never in the history of the world missed rent. And I was willing to pay extra.. Just don't get it. Edit: New place is way better anyway.

You signed a lease did you not?
